Halifax reward

I currently have a Halifax reward..with 3 DD.

I want to move one dd to another account.

This will leave one DD. And a DD to pay off Halifax credit card at minimum balance monthly. But I pay off in full manually. Therefore the DD is not actually taken. Will it still qualify for the 2 DD criteria for monthly reward ?

  • No. For the monthly reward of £5, two DDs have to actually been paid out during the calendar month.

If the DD does not pay monthly, it will not count.

Do you think it qualifies, having read the key features below?

Set your manual credit card payment to go out two working days before the statement due date.

That way the direct debit will still be collected.

Why not pay off the credit card fully by DD instead of manually?
2 x DDs need to be active each month to qualify (and minimum pay in also)
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Thanks. And just minus what the minimum balance is ?

I manually pay the full amount and let the direct debit go through too.

There's always an additional set of post-statement transactions it will offset.

Not essential, but makes me feel in control.

Would it not be easier to change the existing DD so it collects the full statement balance each month?

Surely setting the DD to pay the full amount is the better approach. All my credit card DDs pay the full amount - I never want to pay the crazy interest fees.

Might be easier, but if, like me and many others, OP runs the Halifax Reward with minimum balance, this would mean ensuring there was enough in the account to cover the full statement balance.
