I lived in a house like this, but we called them terraced as they were all joined together.
A few people including our neighbours converted their garage, it did increase noise so we decided to improve the sound proofing and our neighbours kindly offered to pay half. Some people did extend above, it didn't seem to have an impact on values negatively as it was an area with a housing shortage so prices slowly rose when it became apparent that the houses were easily extended.
Personally, if I want detached I wouldn't be buying a terraced property.0 -
Nope do not buy it - especially if you have been looking for detached. Along with the detached that are 3 inches apart these are just a marketing play on the word detached.0

You have concerns. Many of them.
We cannot resolve those concerns, they will be with you forever if you buy this place. You will be on tenterhooks whenever a ladder goes up next door.
No point in putting yourself through his angst. Move on and look elsewhere, to a house where this issue will not happen for you.
Sorry if I sound harsh, but...... think long and hard about this before buying it is all I can say.0 -
Thank you all for taking the time to reply and your useful advice.
Reluctantly (because we really really like the property) we have decided to walk away from this one.0
