2015 Clio 1.5 DCI Fuel Economy - or lack of...

I've recently bought one of the above and I'm happy with the car overall except the MPG isn't what I was expecting. I always reset the on board computer everytime I fill up with diesel. After covering 301 miles I decided to fill up. My on board computer gave an average reading of 60MPG when arriving at the pump making me believe this was fantastic. When I actually worked it out manually though I'm only getting 39MPG. Either my on board computer is wrong and lieing to me or there's something else. Has anyone had similar experiences? I do a good mix of around town and some motorway miles each week, I used to get alot more than 39mpg from my 1.2 petrol !

As above, I doubt there's that much difference so it may be calculations are incorrect.

    Just using online calculators.
    Distance convered - 301 miles
Litres needed to fill car - 34 litres (rounded down)

OK, so at least you are using imperial gallons rather than US.

The next question is how you know you're filling to the same point on the tank as you started from.

BTW, you don't need "online calculators". This is basic numeracy.
    34 litres / 4.5 litres per gallon = 7.55 gallons
    301 miles / 7.55 gallons = 39.8mpg

    Riiiight.

At which point I find myself wondering how much you're spilling on the road when you drive off.

    Same pump?

Is the mpg reading reset with the trip? It might be giving you a different average for some reason.

We only get about the same from the previous gen 1.5dci

the problem is you still have a quarter of a tank left when you fill up! :P

We had an older model Clio DCi, 56 plate, and i double checked the accuracy of the on board computer several times during the ownership period and it was only a couple of MPG out.

We averaged over 60mpg usually, wasn't that much worse doing mostly urban running in my experience.

As already said I would suspect an issue with your calculations rather than a 20mpg difference between the onboard computer and your calculated MPG

I personally don't think you will average much more than 60mpg in the newer Clio DCi, partly because the new Clio is a bit larger.

Do you have the FAP or non FAP? We had non FAP.
