O/S Daily Thread Tuesday 19th July 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning all
I was awoken early by my beloved playing the trumpet, well actually he was just breaking wind, but the neighbours were getting their windows rattled by the noise, so I got up.

The fish have been fed, the DW on, hubby has a cuppa, I'll have a browse before I leave at 7 to help with the grandchildren.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread HH.

Yesterday I cleared the house of the cardboard mountain and then did a little dusting. Had a dicky tummy so was a bit ropey.

Today promises to be a hot and sunny though very humid. I've got a fifth birthday present to buy for a boy and have no idea what to get. Much as I hate it I'll have to ask his parents.

I hope everyone has a lovely Tuesday.
  • Good morning all,

Thank you Hester for starting us off.

Gers sorry about the tummy upset, but your holiday sounds amazing and it was lovely to have a daily report.

Well it is already very warm here, it is lovely to see the sun. Not a great deal planned here, Himself has a GP appointment this morning, but other than that nothing. He isn't very well at the moment I think he is having a bit of a relapse, but I have increased the diuretics as instructed so hopefully will have nipped it in the bud.

Have a good day all and try to keep cool

    Morning :hello:

Toddlers - clever little things, aren't they? I saw my nephew the other day, his mum was saying how he's got into the habit of saying 'me do it' so she corrects him and he repeats it. He's started waiting for the correction – I'll do it – then he says 'OK!' and hands over whatever it is for her to do :rotfl:

I walked into the greenhouse and walked straight back out again :D Far too hot. I checked later, I was surprised at how many tomatoes were hidden behind the leaves, it's going to be a bumper crop this year. They'll make up for the piddly amount of berries I'm getting, I'm only picking 2oz every 2-3 days.

I've re-used two old plastic guinea pig hutches – the top of one is perfect for drying out onions and the bottom of the other is now a doggy padding pool :D

Yesterday morning I had a shower then went for a walk for 30 minutes, my clothes were soaked when I got back and I had to get changed. Don't want a repeat of that today so our walk will be early then I'll spend a bit of time in the greenhouses – I've already opened the doors to keep them as cool as possible. I'll be indoors by 10am and will stay there all day :D

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, bright and sunny, very hot and humid too, at 10pm last night it was 27 degrees in my dining room, has cooled overnight to 25.5 degrees! We shouldn't be moaning but I'd prefer the air to be fresher - I think that's forecast for Thursday/Friday. Work has air conditioning so it's ok whilst I'm at work. Load of washing ready to put on the line and another now in the WM, if that's done before I go to work, I'll put it out if not the boys will need to do that.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. Both boys still in their pits, they will enjoy a lie-in this morning, they did a few jobs yesterday.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and beans - not very healthy but was delicious, ice cream for dessert. Tonight should be spag bol.

Work wasn't overly busy yesterday but steady, we'll see what today brings. I've been told by one of my colleagues that the extra hours that we were all doing have been extended to 31 December and everyone has had an email, did look through mine yesterday but didn't see anything regarding that so will speak to the Supervisor today, hope that they have been extended as the extra is great.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning all,

    Thanks for the thread Hester.

Gers - hope you feel brighter today
Candlelight - I hope your DH gets on OK
nmlc - good news about the extra hours

I too prefer it a bit cooler - stifling heat last night and it's set to be even hotter today. DS2 has been told no blazers required for today and tomorrow. They finish for the summer at 1pm tomorrow. DD is going back today after a day's rest. Shirty email from the school, saying endurance is part of the DOfE and anyone absent is unauthorised. First and only unauthorised day off ever, so I'll take that one on the chin.

Gym this morning then onto the charity, DH has an interview this afternoon, so positive thoughts please :) I will be back to an empty house, so will do the cleaning by myself - lounge, dining room, hall and porch - dusting and wooden floors. Will pick up BBQ bits for tea as the planned shepherds pie will probably be met by a revolt!

    Have a good day all

Good Morning chums and 19c already here in north Kent and due to top 31c this afternoon. I'm not complaining as it makes a nice change from all the grey skies and wet weather.I do prefer it around 21c though.when its too hot I have to hide in the shade as I am fair skinned and because I have lymphodema in my right arm it does damage to my skin especially on that arm.I have sunblock and goodness knows what to put on it but the best thing to do is keep it covered which makes you even hotter. But its due to cool down a bit by Thursday so it won't last for long.

U3A coffee morning this morning so I'd better show my face as I won't be going for the 6 weeks school holidays as I don't think my DGS want to sit with little old ladies for a couple of hours every week nattering.Boys break up tomorrow afternoon until September.Only 2 weeks this friday until we go on holiday so I am definitely eating down my fresh food in the fridge as much as possible.
Quiz night tonight at the local pub so no cooking for me :) and lunchtime I shall use up the tune and sweetcorn with some salad from the fridge

Hope everyone has a good day whatever they are doing Good luck to your OH coxy11 hope all goes well.

My eldest DD is going with her boss to the House of Lords for lunch with one of the school governors I don't envy her in central London today she will be melting

    Cheers chums

    Morning everyone,

Dry and bright here, windows all open and OH has strict instructions to pull the curtains as soon as the sun hits the back of the house. Managed to keep it comparatively cool yesterday doing that as had a slight breeze coming off the fields.
Unlike my office which has no ar-conditioning and on the top floor so heat rising up, boy was I glad to leave yesterday :(
Mum felt better yesterday morning but after a bit of late lunch started to feel nauseous again, no rhyme or reason to what etc so anxious to see what scan shows. Did manage a little chicken soup in the evening and I had made a jelly so enjoyed that with a bit of ice-cream.
Not much else to report, Bill was very hot when he come in from the field so hosed him down and used lavender shampoo to keep flies at bay as much as possible. For once I didn't mind getting wet too!
Gers - hope you feel better soon x
    Likewise Himself x
Positive vibes to Coxy's OH, will have fingers crossed :)

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Morning all,

Another scorcher here by the look of it, it was so hot in the kitchen yesterday it was unbearable imagine in this heat with two huge ovens on, two fryers an two Panini machines it was sweltering !! We also have no ventilation so its unbearable I have downloaded a temperature app n my phone so will see what its like today.

Not sure about dinner tonight but I cant bear the thought of putting the oven on so might do an omelette and salad.

Right better go have good days all xx

    Hugs to Mr Candlelight xx

Good luck to Mr Coxy xx
