I have purchased a pay month sim on ID for £5 month (1 month contract)

I have no idea if ID will work in this area. My plan was to purchase a SIM free iphone and if the ID network doesn't work then go back to O2

I have just realised I can't do this :o as soon as I put the card in the iphone I believe it will lock to ID?

What are my options? I can get my current old O2 iphone unlocked but then if I put the ID card in, will it lock to ID. If it doesn't work then I think ID will charge me to unlock the phone again, which I want to avoid. It would make a £5 experiment rather expensive.

Do I have any options or should I just return the ID sim card, would be a shame as it was a good deal.

Thanks

ID Mobile runs on the Three network, try a PAYG sim if you want to test signal.

Most sim free iPhones don't lock to first sim, where are you intending to buy it from? There is absolutely NO chance your old phone will lock to any sim once it has been unlocked...

    Thank you.

I think three network works around here, I am happy to pay the £5 month deal as they only want one month notice to cancel so I won't lose much if it doesn't. My main concern was the phone locking costing me to fix it. I will ask O2 to unlock my phone.

I am sure I read somewhere that iphones lock to the first SIM? For the money they cost I am not sure if I want to take the risk.

Not sure where I will purchase new phone probably somewhere like Argos or John Lewis.
  • Don't buy an iPhone from Argos or Car Phone Warehouse, they lock to the network of the first SIM inserted, check their small print and Argos's Q & A...

Does anyone know of any outlets that the iphones stay sim free for life?

iPhones from Apple Stores (or direct from their web site) are not network locked, the same may be the case with John Lewis too.

Ask them to be sure nothing has changed. Apple offer finance if required, but their interest rate isn't good.

    Apple
    Giffgaff
    Three
    John Lewis
Currys (might have changed after their merger with CPW)

There are probably others, just ask the retailer to confirm before you buy.

You can get a free unlock from 3 (via Apple iTunes) if it locks to their network.
They don't lock their phones anymore including iPhones.
You can use the iD sim even whilst waiting for 3 to action the unlock.

You might want to read the OP again.

Nowhere in the OP does she say she has locked it to Three...

I mentioned Three as a way for her to check signal without using the ID Mobile sim.

She doesn't have a phone locked to Three (or ID Mobile) it was just a fear it would happen once she had her o2 phone unlocked by o2 and then used the ID Mobile sim.

Only iPhones sold by Carphone Warehouse locks to FIRST sim card. Only first. If it's not locked already - will not lock. Period
