Updating BIOS

I had some advice on this which was cross posted to the other thread I had about upgrading windows 10.
I was lucky because just as I was fishing inside the case of my pc with tweezers and screwdriver working out how to short the jumpers which reset the CMOS when the technical support guy from the company I bought the PC from 4 years ago phoned back and sorted me out.
The BIOS upgrade had removed all the BIOS settings and the saved 'profile'. I hadn't had the confidence or knowledge to fiddle with putting them back but in a few minutes he took me through the process of setting up everything from fan speeds to boot order and it all worked out fine.
I really am grateful for the suggestions from this site (though of course I would advise people to be cautious about which advice to take from internet sources).
I want to say though that this is the second time I have had fantastic support from Chillblast who I bought my PC from. They are UK based, knowledgeable , grown up, not patronising or smart !!!! teckies and have supported me long after my guarantee ran out. I can recommend them to money savers.0 -
I see that I should have used the phrase smart alec rather than smart a**e which has been censored by this site ( how very Victorian).0

Even the BBC allows that arsey word, on radio comedy programmes at 6.30pm, so that Children can hear it...

Yes luckily for you ASUS reset the UEFI to default parameters automatically. When a FW is upgraded the parameters may change from firmware to firmware. To load defaults through a reset is good practice as unexpected behaviour may result.
We don't have the benefit of talking to you one to one in real time or have previously taken your money (we do this completely for free) so communicating through a forum can be a somewhat stilted process, especially if we are busy with other things
Some of us here are highly qualified and work on electronic equipment of much higher value and complexity than a simple PC.

Talky, talky, talky...but no help whatsoever. Some people post in order to try to convince random readers of something or another. Goodness know what.
Keep it simple. Fix the issue or move to a thread where you can.0 -

Fightsback.
I hope I haven't inadvertently offended you. I was, and am grateful for your help. As you say tech support on forums does put you at a disadvantage and I think I was making that same point.

No worries, you are up and running plus you learned a few things that you didn't know before that counts.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0
