Child in full time work, Rent and Council Tax bills?

Sorry if this is the wrong section but i was torn between 2 sections jobs and benefits

I have been off work for a few years now and have finally managed to get some PIP care payments. i seem to have been left on the shelf where the hospital wont do anything and i did not qualify for any extra help.

In the past couple of years i have had to pay towards the council tax which was approx £200 per year.
My daughter was on job seekers so we just had the £200 bill, when my PIP got approved i had a letter from the council saying i was in credit and to write if i wanted a refund. No reason why so i assume its because of the PIP?.

My daughter has just found a job but its a silly zero hour contract. she was told it would be 30 to 40 hours per week though.
House is rented from a housing association. can anyone give me a clue on what to expect to have to pay towards the rent and council tax now she is working?.

I tried an email to the council but i got a reply saying they have not received my email. not sure how that can happen. maybe they are psychic and knew i was going to email them.

sorry if this is the wrong section. (please and thank you) please choose one as appropriate.

sorry i tried clicking the rolling smiley on the right but he keeps moving and is too fast for me.

If you are receiving the daily living component of PIP then no non dependants deductions will be made.

However, this is a change of circumstances so you should telephone the council and let them know about your daughter's new job.

At the same time ask about the refund, how it arose and decide whether you want to take the refund or use it to reduce future HB and CT payments (if applicable)

I gave the wifes saving account for the tax refund because i thought it maybe a mistake. she has signed off and usually they write to us within days when her job centre person messed up her claim and they assumed she was working.
trying the link now and will see what it says and i will report back.

    thanks.

    Bit confused by this, sorry!

Didn't realised that you were a couple with a daughter :)

    So had better start again!

What exactly is your position? What are you claiming, your wife claiming (or do you have a joint claim?) or does one of you claim and one work?

So, tell us what the exact circumstances are for you and your wife as regards claims/working.

The answer about the non dependant deductions may be wrong!!!

    oh sorry. not enough information?.

myself and wife and daughter who is now 20. I claim and receive £309 per fortnight. plus the rent paid and all but £200 something of the council tax.

wife does not work also, she looked after our daughter but now looks after me but receives nothing other than my ESA and not PIP £55

OK, so my information still stands. As you are on daily living PIP you will not have to pay any non dependant deductions for HB or CT.

So telephone the council and let them know the change of circumstances. ie. your daughter starting a job.

Did you know that now you have been awarded daily living PIP your wife may be entitled to Carer's allowance for you?

    Read the criteria here:

    https://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/financial-support/help-with-benefits/carers-allowance

The Carer's Allowance will be counted as income for ESA purposes and deducted from it. However, you will have a Career's premium added to the ESA (more money - about £30 a week, I think)

You would get the Carer's allowance separately so you would be better off my the amount of the Carer's premium.

i forgot to click the reply button and i lost my message. i had a feeling that she could claim for carers allowance but did not know who to ask. thats why i came here, a few people mentioned the diversity on this site was wide and a lot of knowledge lurking.

So if she claims carers she gets £62pw? and my ESA is reduced by £32pw? making us £30 better off?

    thank you for the help.

    You would get

    Your ESA £173.65 minus £62.10 (Carer's Allowance) = £111.55 plus Carer's premium - £34.60 so
    TOTAL of ESA = £146.15

Plus Carer's Allowance of £62.10 (separate payment)

Total of ESA + Carer's Allowance =£208.25 so

    A gain of £34.60

My ESA is not £173? We only get £309 per fortnight?

And a big thank you about the carers allowance, filled the online form in last night. so fingers crossed.

    is my ESA wrong though?
