Ungrateful winner?

Not sure how I felt about this - chap won a great prize and hopefully he had a great time but not sure he should be expected to grovel/be at the radio stations's beck and call?

If they want people to go on air, then they should make it part of the terms and conditions of the competition.
Maybe he wanted the sky bit of the deal but wasn't so fussed about the premiere. Or didn't enjoy it. Or didn't go at all. We've many of us entered competitions where we'd far rather have the second prize than the main one.
I'd happily say thank you, but I'm not sure I'd want to do it live on air either .

If I won a prize like that I'd have taken the Sky and not gone to the premier.... but I'd have checked the T&Cs first to ensure they didn't want me as a marketing puppet. I've a face made for radio, so I never enter anything that might involve a photo.

I'll happily and sincerely say thank you (and have) but I don't think I can manage the enthusiastic squeals and OMGs often exhibited on radio soundbites.

Chris Moyles is so rude!! :(

On the other I would have given them a time I was available to speak to them and at least have said I had a great night and Thank You.

I have been on the radio (it wasn't even live it was pre-recorded and lasted about 10 seconds!!) and just recently had a publicity photo taken ;)

I can say "That's great and Thank You" (although I wouldn't screech like a banshee  ) and shake hands with a bloke while he hands me a cheque and we get our photo taken :D

"Manners cost nowt" as my Nana used to say ;)

I've had a recent radio win and I was, embarrassingly enough, one of the "omg" screechers. In honesty, part of that reaction was more thinking that it was what was expected of me (I was part frozen wondering what if they found out I was a comper - gasp). It was both sincere and slightly frightened they'd think I was ungrateful if I didn't sound surprised enough (and I am VERY grateful for the win).

It sounds like the guy was a tad ungrateful, but I don't think (if this is real) the station have any right to talk about him like this, especially when he can't defend himself. Not everyone wants their voice/image/name out there and, if the comp terms didn't specify you have to go on air, I don't see why he should. :undecided

By entering he agreed to the T&C's which included this
4.3 We may carry out an interview with you either by telephone or in person and we may record the interview

but it does not tie him to a certain time he has to agree to.

Wow, not everyone is an extrovert who wants to go on the radio.
tbh I would say thank you at the time of the winning phone call but it wouldn't cross my mind to phone back the next morning to say thank you again.
But if I'd won a fab prize, I wouldn't really care what a pillock like him said about me anyway!
Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!

Publicity photo, my worst nightmare:eek:! Comping can be a bit of a minefield for people like me who prefer to be on the other end of the camera. I haven't had my picture taking in quite a few years! I don't mind dropping the prize giver a 'thank you, it's arrived love it!" On their social media or email. But I don't even enter comps that inform you by phone, I just freeze up on the phone.

I ALWAYS say thank you for my prize and always upload a photo of it. I am photo shy, However if it was a big prize i would have my photo taken or go on air (would be very nervous).
