Hertz hire car - hail stone damage??

Hi,
Please can anyone help?
We are currently in Italy on holiday and on Wednesday there was an almighty thunder storm/ tornado/ hail stone storm that went through the region where we are based. It was unbelievably powerful and pretty scary. It caused a lot of damage to houses, buildings, trees etc and I have noticed today that my hire car from hertz has damage to its roof, bonnet and upper rear door. The car has pang marks/ small indentations all over which are fairly visible.
Reading through my policy I am uncertain if I am covered for the damage caused by an 'act of God' such as this in my policy. Please can anyone offer advice and ideas about what to do next. Having searched this kind of damage I believe hertz may not cover this? I feel this is really unfair, what are my consumer rights etc?
Does anyone have experience of dealing with matters like this?
Thanks in advance

It will probably depend on what insurance you opted for when you rented the car. If you only chose the basic/standard cover then it's unlikely you will be covered. You'll probably be liable up to the value of the excess.
I rented a car some time back in Australia and the rental agent specifically warned me that we wouldn't be covered for hail damage unless I purchased additional storage. (The location in Brisbane had suffered some serious hailstorms shortly before our arrival.)0
