Monarch booked via 3rd party question

I'm going to Italy on a coach tour holiday in Sept flying with Monarch.
Read on Monarch's website, as my flight is booked with a 3rd party, I'm unable to check in online - so have to check in the old fashioned way - at the check in desk. Not looking forward to have the 'rubbish' seats.
Do I have to check in the same way on the return or can the check in clerk do this on the outbound? It's a week's holiday
TIA

You don't need to have the 'rubbish' seats BUT you do have to pay extra for booking particular seats whether the outgoing or return flights and you can do this via the Monarch booking phone line. In addition you can pay even more (if still available) and have their extra leg room seats. If you don't want to 'phone and pay extra you have to airport check-in (both ways) and take what you are given. Just make sure you inform the desk before he/she presses a button that you would like aisle/window/front/rear/together or whatever - no guarantees but they do try and accommodate if seats to suit you are available.0

Try to obtain the Monarch PNR from the coach tour company you booked with. Once you have this you may be able to manage your booking on line or call ZB to pre assign seats. As 111KAB points out, there is a charge for this.Do I have to check in the same way on the return or can the check in clerk do this on the outbound? It's a week's holiday
It would need to be done separately. The check-in agent at the UK departure point can not check you in for your return flight a week later.0 -

When you check in for your outbound the check in agent can't check you in for the inbound. Unfortunately unless you book direct with Monarch you can't manage your booking online. You can prebook seats if you ring them though on 0333 003 0700.0 -
With Monarch, you can only check in online if you pay for a seat. Dunno if they have 'rubbish seats', flew with them recently, was asked at the check-in desk if I wanted an aisle or window, legroom was as good as Ryanair/Easyjet/Jet2.0

You don't need to pay for a seat to check in online with Monarch. If you don't pay for a seat you can check in 24 hours prior departure and the system will allocate seats for you. If you don't like the seats you can pay to change them.0 -
What would you describe as a "rubbish seat"?
Next to the toilet maybe, but the rest are all much the same.0 -
Thanks for that - is this a recent change? I flew with them earlier this year and pretty sure it wasn't available then.leylandsunaddict wrote: »If you don't pay for a seat you can check in 24 hours prior departure and the system will allocate seats for you.0 -

Likewise, I went with Riviera on Monarch 3 weeks ago and was not able to book my seats at all. We got to the airport early but were unable to get seats located anywhere near each other and as my husband is a difficult traveller we opted to pay there and then for extra leg room seats. It cost us £46 at the airport desk. When we paid we were told we could book extra leg room for the way back while we were there but could do nothing at all about booking our return 'normal' seats. Luckily we were travelling back independently.
I had previously travelled with Newmarket and had the same issues but Riviera had assured me, when I booked, that the passengers were always block booked and so we would be seated together. As sitting together is important for us we will not be using a third party tour again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
