Nice terror attack - urgent holiday help

Hello,

Me and my family were due to go on holiday to Nice next Friday for 8 nights.
As you all know there has been a dreadful terror attack.

We would be keen to move our holiday somewhere else if possible...

Does anyone know what rights we have or if there is anything we can do to get our money back?

Thank you.

What's you holiday ? How booked ? Package via Travel Agent or independent flights/accommodation

You're fairly reliant on the government powers that be issuing an 'Avoid France' instruction to get any 'rights'

I would not let this attack put you off travelling to Nice. Security will be high and it will probably be safer than anywhere else . The locals will be pleased to see that you are supporting them.

I am sorry to say that if you have booked independently, and your flights are still operating as normal, you may have to make a financial decision on whether to travel or not. There was no Foreign Office advice against travel to Paris after the attacks last year and I suspect that will be the same this time. As of now, BA are allowing those due to travel up to Sunday to go somewhere else and they may extend that period. Contact whoever you booked with and see what they say

The chances of it happening again in the same place again are minimal

I'd go anyway if it was me

I think it's not until the Uk Govt put France on a the 'red' at risk list and advice people not to go that you may get a refund. That's unlikely to happen.

I believe you should not dwell on this and just go and enjoy your holiday. Having lived and worked in central London during events including IRA car bombs, Kings Cross fire and terrorist incidents there is nothing you can do. There are armed police and soldiers on the streets now so you can see this as reassuring. The people who all ready, live work or that are currently on holiday there are as safe as we are here. If a similar thing was to happen anywhere there was a crowd in this country there would not be armed police able to shoot the driver dead and even more people might be injured.

Sadly it's probably the safest time to go.

If you booked a package what's the terms and conditions of who you booked with.

If booked separately it might be harder.

I'm fairly certain you are incorrect. Particularly while the Security Service threat level is Severe.

It's not somewhere where tourists are highly visible, or in relatively contained areas, and are the target. It's also not somewhere with poor security and a high prevalence of guns. Therefore I personally feel we're as safe in Nice as anywhere in France and probably London.

However everyone has to make their own choices, and it can be particularly difficult if making that decision for others (children or a group booking) as you feel an additional responsibility. However you are unlikely to be able to change your booking in anyway other than what the terms and conditions are.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
