Know How Care Plan

I bought an indesit washing machine from Currys back in 2006 and was offered a care plan where I pay £2.99 a month and was advised that if the machine breaks down it will either be repaired or replaced. My machine started playing up at the beginning of June, stopping mid cycle and lights flashing on and off. I contacted Currys on the 8th June who arranged a repair. They came out 22/6 and advised that they needed to replace a part which would fix the fault. Booked to come back & replace parts on the 4th July which they did, however the machine is now worse than it was to begin with . I complained and was advised I could request the machine be written off as it had been over 21 days since the fault was originally logged. I rang them to request this but was told to do this an engineer would need to come out and assess the machine again! This will now be the 3rd visit and 3rd day I have had to take off work.
I have exchanged emails with Curry's but am getting no-where. I don't think it is an acceptable amount of time to leave me without a machine that works properly - I have children and both myself & husband work so has been very difficult to get clothes washed - can anyone offer any advice on where to go next if this is still not resolved. Feel like I have paid the £2.99 a month for not a lot in return.
Thanks in advance.

Do realise that 2006 is now 10 years ago. Your Washing machine cannot last forever and the fact that the machine has now been attended to three times, while strengthening your case for write off, does not entitle you to quicker service than they can reasonably provide.
Why do you think your £2.99 a month has provided "not a lot"? If you didn't have the extended warranty, Curry's would not be interested at all ten years after purchase!0 -

You have paid £2.99 per month for ten years?
That's around £360 you've paid. :eek:0 -
Yeah, I know it's actually ten:oGeorge_Michael wrote: »6 years ago?
I've edited accordingly.
It actually will when Curry's pronounce the old unit now a write off. The OP will (eventually) get a new machine. That amount could have gone towards another washing machine.
However, I agree extended warranties are largely worthless.0 -

Add to that the issue of paying £360, Op and husband had to take time off work and have had no washing machine since the beginning of June. Our washing machine stopped working about the same time as OPs. Using a hotpoint clearance site June 33% off code, ordered a new machine on a Monday evening and got a it delivered on the Wednesday before noon. They also took away the old machine. Total cost £208.0 -
They are now replacing it. I agree I won't take out another plan but was never expecting the machine to last 10 years and once you start paying you are wary of stopping in case the machine then breaks down.
I know the amount I have paid I could have bought a new machine but that is all very well in hind-sight. However I have had them out a few times previous to this occasion and have not had to pay call-outs, parts etc so may work out not much different. Just don't think it should be made so difficult for customers to get these things sorted! After all you pay for these services and expect a certain level of customer service when you need to use it.0 -
We've never had 1 of these warranties and the appliances have lasted years, in excess of 15 years for the white goods.0
