British Gas unpaid bill - The Litigation Services Co. - Is this a scam?

I just got a letter from "The Litigation Services Company Ltd." telling me I owe British Gas £67.01 for gas supplied to my house from 26/11/06
Now the thing is, I only moved into this house in Easter of this year, and our gas is supplied by British Gas, but I'm not the account holder (my husband is), and the account reference number on this invoice letter doesn't match our account number.
The only way I can contact them "if any of the above information is incorrect...if we do not hear from you we will therefore assume the information is correct and take action to recover these charges" is via an 0870 number.
Do you think this is a scam? I surely do, but would appreciate advice if you have any! This company claims to be "a trading name of Complete Credit Management Limited" - I found this other company's website and am thinking of emailing them to ask what they make of it all. Should I bother?

Who was the letter addressed to? Could it be for the previous owner?0

Have a look on www.saynoto0870.com and see if there is a geographic number for the company. If you do not contact them to advise that it is not your debt, they will continue chasing you.Gone ... or have I?0

They're not on the list - I just tried to call their number anyway but I was on hold for 10 minutes and nobody picked up0 -
Don't ring that company.
Ring BG(get cheap number from saynoto 0870) and explain the problem to them.
It is either a mistake, or a scam, but for £67 hardly seems worth it.
Probably it is for another person with the same name as yours(oojeyboojey is a very common surname!) and these debt collection companies just look up a name and 'try it on'.
As companies get revenue from 0870 no's it could be that is their purpose.0 -

You could perfectly legitimately ignore it. As others have pointed out, 0870 numbers make the company money and cost you money. Not contacting them wouldn't make their claim any more valid.
Contact BG by all means, but if you don't owe the money, I'd ignore it.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

My actual surname is very uncommon and I know for a fact that nobody of my name has lived in that house before me (I am a googlewhack).
Thanks for the advice, guys! I shall ignore it.0 -
My bet would be to ring up british gas on 0113 3381022 and tell that you have a bill, for account number etc.0

Yes, despite my advice above, a quick call to a geographical phone number will put your mind at rest completely.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

yeah I would ring BG and ask them to clarify what supply period exactly the bill is for. Assuming it's not your debt, if you tell british gas they should update their debt collection company and tell them to trace who the correct person is.Indecision is the key to flexibility0
