Holiday sickness compensation

Hi,
I have just been contacted by a company called 'Sun, Sea & Sickness' who claim they can get me up to £2,500 compensation per person if we were sick on holiday due to some form of food poisoning. The whole process seems too good to be true and is really easy to do. They claim that they have won a court battle to release £20,000,000 to distribute to whoever claims.
All they need is your holiday confirmation email, names, DOB & NI numbers.
Has anybody else come across this company and is it legit...?
Thanks,
Darren.

No it isn't legit, it is the second time it has appeared here. There is no such fund, not sure where they are getting names from but avoid. If you were genuinely ill and reported it at the time and have failed to obtain compensation, seek legal advice.

The next stage is presumably to ask you for money to release your entitlement, it seems like a newer version of the Nigerian inheritance scam, if you are entitled to claim, you knew already, if you weren't entitled to claim, you still aren't!!
  • There was another thread about this a while ago. It's !!!!!!!!. If there had been a court case to release £20,000,000 don't you think the press and media would have been reporting it? Who's released the £20,000,000? How do you prove you had food poisoning? It can't be proven unless you had samples tested at the time, and they came back with a known form of food poisoning.

No one is just going to give money to people who say they've had food poisoning unless there is proof. There'd be thousands of people who decided that their overindulgence of alcohol, sun and cold drinks that upset their stomach was a good excuse to try and claim compo.

One look at their website would make me run a mile. It's got no info about them on it at all. The company was set up in April this year and has 2 directors.
  • Thanks Alan,

Further to my earlier reply, it seems very very even more very unlikely that they have won any battles, court or otherwise, the two owners bought the company from Easy Formations in May this year so trading for maybe 8 weeks. Their website has no address or their company name or registration number so if they are telling porky pies already, they are probably best avoided as much as the food poisoning...

Sun, Sea and Sickness is the company name, and they are registered and incorporated, date 21st April 2016, number 10138512, address then was Gamekeepers Cottage, Aston Lane, Aston, Runcorn, Cheshire WA7 3DD.

Changed registered address on 21st May to
Connect Business Village, Unit 4 Derby Road, Liverpool L5 9PR.
I still would't have anything to do with them though

so they do not ask for the hospital/doctor medical reports that prove the extent of the illness?
there are a number of ambulance chasers out there happy to take a cut of cases they think they can win. you an check "compensation for food poisoning on holiday" and a load of NWNF sites will appear
How ill were you? hospitalised? medical evidence of source of illness? or was this an speculative call just like the calls for "accident in the last 2 years"...hoping to find the 1 in 000s that will say "yes I did"
  • I genuinely was ill on my last night, but didn't report it or seek medical advice, I did however report it on a Thomas Cook survey on my return, however I am starting to think it was a speculative call and I just happened to have been sick. They state that because they won the court case, they do not require any proof.

It obviously wasn't food poisoning you had though if you didn't seek medical advice.

They are talking complete !!!!!!!!! There was no court case. They didn't fish that figure up out of thin air though. In 2012, £20,000,000 was the estimated total compensation amount that has been paid out for holiday complaints, sickness and injuries in the past 16 years, to more than 70,000 holidaymakers.

What sort of compo would you be looking for for feeling ill on one night of your hol?

would it be the same amount as if you were feeling ill at home one night?

food poisoning is more than one night feeling ill, i had food poisoning once and could barely get out of bed for 2 weeks
  • There are varying levels of food poisoning. Not all bacteria will cause hospital treatment. I am on holiday currently and both my husband and I have lost several days due to an upset stomach. I have reported it as it is important that the travel company and hotel are made aware. I believe we had eaten something not quite right. I have a 20 years experience of working with food. So am careful about my own personal hygiene
