Uber - Cleaning Charge

I have to admit, I really don't understand the animosity from black cab drivers towards Uber in the UK. It sort of makes sense in the US, but in the UK, Private Hire is a well established alternative to black cabs, with established licensing requirements set by the local authority. Over here, surely Uber would be "just another private hire firm" who happen to have a better system than their rivals?
In my experience, its not Uber that the hackneys have a problem with - its private hire cars/minicabs in general. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

It's because Uber is popular enough to actually see a noticeable decrease in the money they make. Any other reason is just a smokescreen.
Black cabs are massively overpriced. Instead of adjusting their prices to a more reasonable level they'd rather attempt to keep their monopoly in place and continue to charge the astronomical prices. I appreciate the knowledge is hard but frankly these days it's been replaced by technology.
This is progress for you. It'll get even worse once Uber start to roll out their driverless cars and they don't even need the drivers anymore.0 -

Recently the fare from our house into the town centre jumped from £3.50 to £5 each way but the drivers seem to charge what they like (give or take a £1). The most recent case was my partner was taking our dog down to the vet (which she has done several times before) and the driver, for the first time, had the cheek to demand an extra £2 for the dog - my partner asked would he charge an extra £2 per child accompanying an adult and when he tried the old 'that is different' excuse she threw the basic fare (without dog surcharge) onto his tray and got out telling him to sue her.IITYYHTBMAD0 -
Download an exif viewer and open to photo they sent you with it. It could be time stamped or even have GPS coordinates which make the driver out to be a liar. Or use this http://regex.info/exif.cgi
Don't use the photo from photo bucket as these websites tend to strip out exif data.0 -

I persisted with my claim against Uber and after about 3 or 4 emails going back forth and the threat of small claims (which I would have seen through) I got the entire amount refunded.
Persistence can pay off!
Thanks for all the advice guys0 -
Doh! Missed that bit.
But who doesn't want to go all CSI??0 -

Black taxis are the worst - I usually have a local cab pick me up from the airport at half the price.

Word will get around and you may find it difficult to hire a cab. by the way there are quite a lot of businesses that class dogs differently to children.0 -
I know this is an old thread but this thread kept me positive when I was charged £110 for damage I didn’t cause! Uber had completely stopped responding to my emails and continuously sent me notifications telling me my case was closed.
I sent a tweet to them and Which? (consumer rights group). Which gave me some useful advice on making chargeback claims (but I couldn’t use as it was over £100 on a debit card). It's all on their website. I also Tweeted Uber a Sun article of the same thing happening where an Uber spokesperson says they always ask for cleaning receipts (as I’d asked repeatedly to see a receipt to at least establish the car had been cleaned on that day).
I contacted different national media news teams and national media consumer rights teams, and understand that at least one of them contacted Uber.
Anyway, they suddenly refunded me in full with no explanation. I think media contacting them would definitely have done it, but they were starting to be much more responsive through Twitter so maybe that would have been enough.
Anyway, hope this helps someone. This seems to be happening a lot and it's pretty rigged against you! #deleteuber0 -

That is incorrect, there is not a £100 limit on debit card chargebacks. Who told you that?0
