Hi
Going to Spain soon staying with relatives, unfortunately they dont have an internet connection.
From what i understand is that i can buy a mifi and a local pay and go sim for data and use this, alternatively i can put sim into an old iphone that i have and tether/create personal hotspot and use this?
Have looked but struggling to find any decent pay and go sims that have data, like we have here in the UK, all appear to be contract ones.
Alternatively can tether my iphone on 3, with an all you can eat contract but will cost £5 perday... but is expensive?
Has anyone done this cheaply, thanks?

Why would it cost £5 per day? Spain is within their Feel At Home offering. If there is a problem with tethering, you can put a 3 PAYG data SIM within. Cost approx. £4.50 for 1GB or £10 for 3GB.
If you want to buy a MiFi, you can also get one from Argos for here for £26 The extra is for the unlocking code.
You may be able to flog the 6GB SIM within for a tenner. MiFi is only 3G. If you need a 4G MiFi, you can pick up an Osprey Mini 2 via eBay for around £33 including unlocking code cost.
Alternatively, you can pick up the Osprey on a one month contract for £14.99 here and pair it with their £11 30 day contract....remember to give your 30 day notice once you've activated the contract. £1 to unlock via eBay for a total cost of £26.

Some people like to enjoy themselves while on holiday!
Internet access allows you to find interesting places to go to and to eat at. You can also read reviews to check the quality of places before you go. Plus holidays are about enjoying yourself and a lot of people enjoy keeping in touch with friends and relatives.
I can never understand people who go on holiday and do nothing and just sit around all day by a pool or on a beach. It it so boring and it is such a waste of them travelling so far yet don't go anywhere interesting!.0 -
Thanks for your replies, thought i had to get a 3 Euro Internet pass... will look at Feel at Home firstly, thanks Nifty Digits

Before I went to Lanzarote last year I spent the weeks leading up planning on where to eat and things to do, and then cross referenced my list with the reception to see what they suggested.
The £5 a day charge will be because tethering isn't included in the All-you-can-eat package. it used to be when it first came out but they swiftly changed it.
I would suggest this is your best bet, as you want need to buy anything physical and can be planned and you could book it by speaking to a human by calling 333.
Hope you have fun!0 -
I'd get a mifi second hand from CRC or its ilk, very cheap.
Get a Three PAYG data SIM, PAYG can be used in mifi for tethering, voice tariffs cannot.0 -

A terrible idea. £5 per day to tether? What are you thinking?
The OP can simply place a 3 PAYG data SIM within their iPhone for a cost of less than £5 (1GB) or £10(3GB) for the whole trip.0 -
Thanks again , have purchased a 3 PAYG data SIM.A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Bit late to this query.
When we were in Spain recently we went into a vodaphone store.
You can buya Vodaphone sim tourist card which gives loads of phone and texts and Data.
Cost was 5euro for 500Mb
10 euro for 1Gb
15 euro 1.5 GB each lasting one month.
Not being techie or using our smart phone at all in UK we went for the 1.5Gb option because we had no idea of usage.
We may have used 300Mb in the 15 days we were in Spain.
PS
we were in Spain May 19 to June 5 which was before the latest roooles for mobiles came into operation. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0
