We have a drawer in our sideboard which is just for receipts, got stuff going back years and the ink is fine - we open the drawer very infrequently. Also, I usually register a new product of any value with the manufacturers just in case. I'm sure it's just a marketing tool for them, but it does give me some piece of mind and it has helped before - we had a Vax cleaner which had a fault with the tool holder (after about 2 years). Rang them up and they had our details on their system and sent a replacement part out without any quibbling.
I also have a free extended warranty thing with my bank account, and they asked for proof of purchase when setting up the extended warranty, and the T&C's say that I don't need to provide further proof should I need to claim.

Two shoe boxes, one for usual 12 month guarantees the other for longer terms/life.

I have an A4 folder which I marked "Receipts & Warranties". If there is only a paper receipt/warranty, it goes inside an A4 Plastic envelope, marked with a message on another piece of paper. If it's an online receipt, I print it and do the same. If the item came with a manual or guide, I put both inside an A4 envelope if it's big enough. Lots of small receipts are placed together and Post-it stickers apllied to the envelope: marked "Domestic" - "Appliances" - Garden" -etc.

Every year I look through the folder and throw out anything no longer relevant or run out of time.
I think this job really needs

I put important receipts in cheap individual envelopes, to protect from sunlight, and write what it's for on the envelope. This makes finding them easy.

For the past 10+ years I've also scanned them and kept a copy on the computer. In recent years due to on-line buying the scanned ones have been more use than the paper ones as most warranty problems have been sorted via email.
