Congratulations, Karmacat! Plenty of time for writing now...?
    Karmacat!! Stupendous!!!!!

    Thanks both!

Yep, plenty of time for writing. There are lots of prepperdom books to write, and lots of other stuff too - autobiog of early trips, and biogs based on family history, and stuff about my home city too, it helps having a famous home city (Liverpool ...). There are endless shenanigans to write about in Liverpool.

And then there's the apocafic series ... so many first drafts :o now I get the time to work them up into second drafts :j

Not long now till GQ's first update :D

Twice in the last couple of weeks, we have heard a fighter jet screaming low over the house. First time I thought there was something on at Biggin Hill but as far as I can see, there's nothing on this weekend although it's a Bank Holiday. Given that we are under the flight path for City Airport and, to a lesser extent, Gatwick, I imagine the airspace is a bit busy for routine manoeuvres. So I was wondering if they were scrambling jets to intercept anything. I know that happens a lot over the North Sea and the jets are scrambled from airbases in Lincolnshire but I've never heard of anything this far South.

There was a lot of activity in Norfolk last week. Military aircraft circling around - in over Sandringham, back out over the bombing ranges in the Wash. Repeatedly. There were also a lot of civilian aircraft and helicopters. They weren't using the bombing ranges though. You can tell when they are.

(First time delurking so hello )
We regularly have military aircraft overhead here (halfway between Peterborough & Leicester) but we are surrounded by bases so not unexpected.
But over the past couple of weeks we've had a lot more jets appearing to scramble in the same direction (coast)... perhaps just exercises.

Hello Smeeth:wave: hope you stay unlurked.

That is interesting. We have never had military jets overhead before, so something is going on. Probably exercises as you say. I know Russian jets regularly encroach upon our airspace but they don't get this far South. I can imagine the PTB rehearsing how to take out a hijacked passenger aircraft intent on doing a twin towers over London

Thinking about it, we've also had a couple of Chinook helicopters buzzing around a couple of times
