Dried, chewy, apple rings and dried, hard and sweet, banana chips - when using in porridge in place of fresh fruit - add them before or after microwaving the oats/milk?
    :)

I tend to prepare around 4 days worth at a time and reconstitute by poaching in either water or homemade fruit juice. Then I can add it cold from the fridge to cool my boiling hot microwave porridge :D

  • Very good blackberry year but everything else has failed, the raspberries were only knee high instead of over my head and very little fruit on them, all the apples have dropped from the big old tree, my fig tree never grew proper leaves let alone fruit and the only thing that gave us a good crop on the allotment was the rhubarb which doesn't mind the cold temperatures we had in the extended winter. I think the price rises they are forecasting as a result of that and the hot dry summer will be the least of our problems as I think it will be lack of available crops that ill be our worse problem, The price is irrelevant if they aren't available in the shops to buy in the first place because they're all used up!

On holiday in France atm so haven't been into the local town centre but Debenhams was always the first shop to bring out Chrimbo stock

I'd offer to go and look, but can't face the thought of the (to me) long trek down the road to the bus stop to get back home :D

Ivyleaf - Nothing Christmassy in Debenhams in Manchester last week, autumn and winter clothes are in though so it won't be long.

Our apple trees really are laden this year despite the heatwave. It's rare for the apple crop here to be this good. Its certainly predicted that food prices are going to soar because of poor harvests world wide though so I'm trying to squirrel away as much as I can of our crops.
I'm at the dentists this morning, then calling at Saynos to pick up some more empty fruit boxes o store them in. The whole house is beginning to smell of apples. It's not unpleasant but MrC tells me that the fruit trees on the plot we keep the bees on are equally well laden so friends and family will be benefitting soon. I'm running out of space to store them.

My blackberries and blackcurrants were dripping in fruit this year, but were ready and over super early. All picked, processed and frozen ready for making tart, crumble etc. There are so many I may even have to resort to making some jam!

all the apples have dropped from the big old tree,

A lot of our apples have dropped as well, possibly the hot weather stressed the tree too much

  • OK peeps, preparedness for the imminent move of house is now COMPLETED!!! our home is entirely packed in multitudes of boxes and the house (all except the downstairs floors because they are covered in said boxes)is clean and cleaned in all rooms. The Barn, Summerhouse, polytunnel and greenhouse have all been emptied of what is coming with us and I've just been and picked the last tomatoes and that's that. Woohoo BRING IT ON!!!
