If I really flex the paperwork I can show an Irish great-great grandparent or two, but I gather that's no "use" for getting my lads around. Ah well, just have to find them nice European partners.
Meanwhile, as we returned from godfather, we were urged to help unload a cooking & an eating apple tree, and so the edible hedge jam is now looking very promising! I'll need to crack on though as two bags of rain-wet apples will become icky at some speed...

I have just been blackberrying and saw some hornets enjoying the fruits as well. Very yellow as well as very big, never likely to be mistaken for a wasp. IMO, in close confines they drone like a B52 in the distance.,

Offhand, I think we can safely decide it's Autumn.

Two separate supermarkets are selling nonstick pans so people can make stew without burning the root vegetables. Asda even had slotted (plastic) spoons discounted to 15 pence each!

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently

I've also seen them smoking, and not roll-ups either.

Last week, Tesco had the tins of popular brands of Christmas chocolates for sale.

It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    Someone on here will know...

Dried, chewy, apple rings and dried, hard and sweet, banana chips - when using in porridge in place of fresh fruit - add them before or after microwaving the oats/milk?

I add sultanas with the cold milk but wasn't sure given the different textures.

If no one knows I'll try adding before microwaving on Wednesday and report back :)
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Karmacat - sorry I can't help you. Porridge is the one food I never eat.

Haven't seen any specifically Christmas stuff in the shops here yet but no doubt it won't be long now.
I'm still processing and storing apples. It's a fantastic apple crop here this year. Raining too hard to pick more today, will have to crack on with them next week.
Another 30lb of honey taken off today too. If all else fails we can live on stewed apples and honey for a reasonable length of time at least :)

Lucky you, Capella , our apple crop is pretty poor this year, and the quinces haven't done any better. However the fig tree is dripping with fruit and there are happy wasps all over the raspberries that grow underneath it! Definitely a good year for blackberries round here; the girls & I went for a walk out in the country yesterday evening & I was beginning to worry that we'd have to find our way back to the car in the dark, there was so much scrumping going on! We'll be going back shortly armed with containers; there are sloes, elderberries, hazelnuts, walnuts & crab apples up there as well as blackberries.
