One reason behind our getting a woodstove years ago was that I was concerned about Putin turning off the taps. And there was this in the papers yesterday

I have a combi boiler (which of course requires electricity as well as gas), and a gas fire, but everything else is electric, hence the camping stoves.

Without the camping stoves, in the event of a power cut, I'd be up excrement stream, without a means of propulsion.

Hello mar, glad you've found us and I hope the RV is feeling better?

OH and I are neither of us in good health, so I suppose our prepping is for times when we might not be up to going out for a few days. Anything more major - well, it's simply no good worrying about it. we do have things like bottled water, torches, lamps, tinned food and dried milk :)

Oh, and hello and welcome to melodramaticme and any other new posters I have been accidentally ignoring :o

We live in a big city and sometimes it can feel a bit post-apocalyptic minus the zombies.

When the trains are delayed at Cannon Street or Charing Cross I sometimes look around and think how would you know if the zombie apocalypse had started already
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

really upset, my new potatoes looked as if they were ready, with the foliage going yellow and I thought with all the rain, there'd be a bumper crop. So went and had a furtle and each plant only seems to have produced one or at most two potatoes:(

And one of my raspberry canes has gone yellow and wilted so need to google it to find out if it's catching.

one of our lotty neighbours has agreed to water things in exchange for all the raspberries she can pick while we are away, hope she actually gets enough though they seem to be producing well atm

Don't think we'd see out a major food shortage on this year's harvest. Be afraid Cheel's rabbit, be very afraid:D

That just happens some years, the plants fool you into thinking they are ready but possibly will reward you with s better crop in s couple of weeks.

Yes, precisely that about the stations, though I'm in the Midlands. .

He's ok Ivy thanks. I prep for illness, bus strikes, and bad weather. My nearest shop is 11 miles and is just a wee village Post Office/general store. But it has a fine selection of sweeties in jars...

Doveling yes I think it's the same thing that our children are doing, he seemed to enjoy the first week (well as much as a teenager tells you they enjoy anything)
Re the raised beds we bought old scaffolding planks from a local charitable/recycling wood place. They have done the job well.

Hope all are well, I'm currently clearing the ironing pile.

Hi GreyQueen I used to have a cold slab many moons ago where I lived. It was brilliant and worked very well. I was just talking about them with My dh a while ago.
