my cream worked brilliantly, I did so much prep work yesterday, I was melting but now everything in the garage can be transferred as is, like waving a magic wand. More cream on today, must have worked like a moisturising barrier cream, wonderful comfort for the first time in weeks
Large allotment wondermeshes will be washed today, dried and rolled as small as possible. I have to nibble at this prep0 -
Karmacat, try adding Blackthorn and Elder to the hedge as well - sloes for sloe gin, elderflowers for cordial and elderberries later in the year for syrup (or wine:D)It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Ideal post-SHTF house for me would be on one of the islands, a croft with a decent sized boat. But I'd need to take one or more of the sons to help us with it.0

My dream house would be a steading with at least 4 bedrooms ( ideally 5 so we could all have our own room) I would also like a study/sewing room and a
Enough land to keep some animals and grow lots of food and close enough to the coast to fish. I do quite like the west coast of scotland so would like to stay here if at all possible.0 -
A proper walk-in pantry and a utility room which is big enough to have an ironing board permanently set up with iron plugged in ready to use. A garden with lots of different fruit, herbs and veg, plus all those flowers from the garden of my childhood - peonies, lilacs, forsythia, philadelphus. A proper kitchen/utility cupboard to store things like vacuum cleaners and floor mops. An outdoor plumbed in shower for when the dog gets filthy on winter walks. An Aga type cooker that never goes out.One life - your life - live it!0

I'm pleased to say I already found my dream house, and am living in it. Happy days, eh?0

An Aga nargle. I hear you with that one.
DH has renewed the company car. He's ordered a hybrid. The two reason are that with the electric charge he can get to work and back should there be a fuel shortage and it's £80 a month cheaper in tax. There was a 4x4 option that we felt we needed for hill living but the tax would have taken more from his salary then it does now and I didn't like the emissions numbers on it.
The car has always been appreciated because it let's us tap into life exploring our surroundings but it's been an interesting shift in DH to think in terms of prepping and planning.0 -
Hello playmates, it's been a while but I thought I would come here to confess (and warn). I fell off the preparedness wagon!
Got contacted by my bank's fraud department to query a dodgy transaction on my debit card. They had blocked it till they heard from me. Suffice to say it wasn't me!
How did they know? Apparently it's all to do with their computer algorithms picking up on it (I didn't realise my spending was that predictable).
The ATM I used the day before could have been tampered with - who knows. But the upshot is the debit card was stopped and I'm in limbo till a new card and pin arrive in the post.
Meanwhile the only way to get any cash is to travel to my nearest bank branch over 20 miles away.
Apart from using a credit card (which carries a fee).
Purely by chance, I have enough petrol in the car and £30 in cash.
Fortunately my store cupboard is well stocked.
So my lessons learnt are:
Have a secondary account/debit card with a different provider
Get back to keeping a cash reserve in the house
Keep a better check of bank statements (it was only a £70 transaction and could have been missed).
Use a credit card or a prepaid card for online spending for better protection.
Set up telephone banking because without a card or ready access to a bank branch, I can't even check my account.
Plus finally I have a use for the tin foil! Just in case the card was skimmed, going to wrap it up in foil when I leave the house.
Did I miss anything?
Lessons learnt and all that....0
