:rotfl:at wondering which bank (or banks) the State uses - as my income is State Pension and Civil Service Pension (ie from the State).

Are you able to tell the sort code of the bank paying you MITSTM?

You can tell the bank by the first two numbers. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sort_code

Anyone seen the headlines in the Sunday papers about how we would be short of food and medicines within a fortnight of a no deal Brexit?

Like we were going to enter an immediate recession and the redundancies would start the day after the referendum?

All the same a good store cupboard is never wasted

Next time you are at the supermarket, check thr fruit and veg.A lot is from Spain and Holland, and stuff we don't or cant grow here.Especially out of season. Then check the meat. A good proportion of what supermarkets sell is eu. in particular poultry and pork. The poultry and pork that is not emblazoned with 'UK Poduce' are likely as not,Dutch,Belgian and even Polish/Romanian.And in some cases ( cured products like bacon and gammon) they are allowed by law to repackage and label as UK!

So on Brexit Day,there will be no free movement of goods in or out between UK and Europe.Proper checks will have to be made, not just checking paperwork.I suspect that the EU may will be bloody minded in the early days too!

This will lead to a slowdown of shipments to a bottleneck situation - thus leading to empty shelves.Remember,we import well over half our food into the UK,let alone other goods.Shops dont have stockrooms anymore, they work on a just- in - time system. The stock is in a truck, and until delivery is made, the shop is not holding money! It's how my own firm works. If we hold more stock than is needed for a four day period, then I am for the high- jump as manager,as it costs the firm money.

Remember the shelves being stripped when we saw The Beast From The East? Imagine the population knowing ( and we will) that there is zero Brexit deal. The shelves will be emptied, and the trucks will be held up.

    If there is no deal.

That's a great post, mumf, and I especially agree with this point above.

Although it is sensible to be prepared, I believe that businesses that have been selling to the UK will still need to sell their goods. They will not want to lose the UKs substantial custom !!!8211; although I suspect prices will probably increase.

And I agree with that too. But its still possible there'll be a blockage at the ports, and a wee bit of pushing and shoving around it all.

Not saying there won't be short term disruption. But if you remember the year 2000 preps, the govt told the supermarkets to make sure they had enough stock on hand to cope with disruption and to hell with JIT deliveries. Not beyond the wit of man to do the same with Brexit
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

It appears that government are preparing for a bottleneck of trucks at Dover.

And won't it be good when it happens, to watch the useless self-serving two-faced lot of them having to actually roll up to the Commons and actually do some urgent and constuctive work!!!
