fuddle drink enough, warm water is good. Heart, lungs, kidneys are all interlinked, when one struggles then the others struggle. Everyone needs to drink before thirst kicks in. If in doubt then do the pinch test on the back of the hand. Skin will spring back in younger people, if hydrated enough

Just out of curiosity, what "preppy" things do you have in your pockets right now?

Let's include the coat you normally wear, when you leave the house to go shopping, to work etc.

Obviously, I'm not talking about everyday things like money, keys, etc., but rather stuff you carry "in case" of a SHTF situation.

Also, let's only count the pockets on your clothes, not the pockets on a day-sack or other luggage.

:( I think that estimate is going to be undermined by the amount of obesity-related illnesses especially diabetes and its many grave complications. It is also reckoned that life expectancy is starting to decline in the UK and the USA and that the present young adults may well live shorter, unhealthier lives than their own parents. My relations typically live into their eighties and even some into their early nineties, but we haven't any centenarians that I know of.

Mind you, I have no particular desire to live into the middle of the twenty-first century if it means decades of miserable health. I'd rather go out with a bang, ideally taking some nogoodnicks with me.:rotfl:

ETa; Preppy things? A handkerchief, but I have only just got dressed. And my everyday carry bag, with a variety of preppy things, is sitting on the floor two feet away.

Your quote GQ, yes very much a shock to be hitting 70, I always thought that 70 was the gateway to old age but really it is just a number, anyway I have changed the goalposts to over 80 but have become mentally aware about the frailities that creep up. I don`t feel frail but am certainly and consciously, avoiding any potential harming situation. Not going out at the moment is part of that as is handrail holding, not wearing slip on slippers and so on as is discarding potential new homes with steps between rooms or at the front or back

Bob - I have no pockets in my clothes at the moment. My grab coat has keys, a small torch, gloves, hat, and £10 in the pockets though.

Fuddle - my cardiologist told me very firmly to avoid going out in very cold weather. He told me that if I had to go out to wrap up very warmly and cross a long scarf over my chest under my coat. At the I was surprised by a consultant suddenly beginning to sound exactly like my mother but I have found that it was actually excellent advice, because when it is cold the heart has to work much harder to pump blood to your extremities. I was only given the advice after a heart attack so your doctor may not have told you the same thing yet. I just tjought you might find his advice helpful, but I am not a medical expert though just someone who also has heart issues and your condition sounds different to mine.

It's pouring down here, I hope it carries on. I have been housebound for a week now and can't wait to start getting out and about again. I need to restock the freezer and our tinned stuff soon. There is still plenty of food here, but some fresh fruit will be good, though we still have plenty of frozen and tinned stuff.

Maybe I phrased it badly. Let's include the coat you wear when you go outside.

    I've edited accordingly.

Not pouring down here, but there is light rain, which is beginning to melt the snow.

For the first time in over a week, I can see the grass and concrete paths.

:) I'm still 20 in my head, kittie, so it's a shock to see that I'm not 20 on the outside, too. And that joints don't move without trouble.

Yup, there are those who are capable of remarkbable feats of physical endurance in their seventies and beyond but there is a reason that they get articles written about them; it's rare.

I'm not advocating that we who've passed the mid-point of the typical life expectancy retire to our armchairs and give up anythng more strenous than lifting the telly's remote control. Far from it, inactivity can kill you, too. But there needs to be a realistion that we'll need to apply our wiliness to everyday lifestyle issues in order to have the best quality of life.

Cabin Fever; it's definately a thing, isn't it? My home's tiny so I can go slightly cabin feverish at the best of times, but this is a real issue which needs to be built into prepping, or we might be tempted to make semi-unnecessary trips outside and come to harm in extreme weather.

What remedies can people suggest to mitigate cabin fever?

Frequent sexual activity. It's good for the heart too.

Are you free next weekend? :)

My DDs ruthlessly disillusion me when I say I am late middle aged

    "no Mum, you're old!" :rotfl:

I'm 63 and while that doesn't feel old, I am beginning to notice a loss of stamina. I can still work hard when I have a need to but I don't bounce back next day ready for more, I have to have a less demanding day in between
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
