I'm going to keep a foil blanket in my little rucksack-the one I use when travelling.

As far back as I can remember, I've carried a pack of 2 in my day-sack.

Another handy thing I carry (in my inside jacket pocket - no time to start searching for it when the lights go out :) ), is this LED torch I got from a Tesco petrol station, for £4.

    £land/world.

    Or, failing that, Amazon.co.uk

I didn't think of amazon! lol Ta BB :)
  • For what they cost, and how small and light they are, I think everyone should keep a couple with them at all times.

They have so many uses, and can literally be a lifesaver.

I think I will get a couple more foil blankets for my bag and house. I already have 2 in the car, they take no space at all

Still lying snow here, now patchy and temperature out is 4, this is air temperature so ground is probably a lot colder. I am glad that it is a slow thaw and the water has a chance to percolate. Thankfully, at last, I switched all the electric heaters off last night and I am giving my house a whirl with ch and pellets this morning. So getting back to normal today and tomorrow. I think I will confine myself to jobs inside.

What have I learned? not to have so many sweet nibbles, did me no good at all and my nibbling crave went into overdrive. To have my winter outdoor footwear handy in the house. To make a device to keep the low outside stove vent clear for airflow. I can do that with an upward facing drainpipe

We have sleet here this morning. I will look out for foil blankets when I'm out and about. My most recent great prepping purchase has been a powerful head torch, which is actually tied round my bag handle. It has a setting that doesn't allow the battery to drain when it's not in use.
Spend less now, work less later.

I just noticed the yellow ice warning here and over much of uk, yaktraks are useless on black ice. Its down to ground temperature then. I can see many accidents when people step out onto lethal paths, drive around shady corners etc, many broken bones and worse
  • I have foil blankets and also some foil 'shelters' which fold out into a double walled triangular shape and are long enough and wide and tall enough to crawl inside and create a warm space. They were £1.99 from one of the poundland type shops here. I got them some years ago and they are a permanent resident of our emergency kit. I think I've seen them on E.bay too but will check again today and see if they're still being sold.
