The first computer was designed and built by a friend of Turing's, named Tommy Flowers.
Did not Charles Babbage invent a mechanical computer?
I seem to remember Ada Lovelace writing algorythms for it.Can anyone point me in the direction of greywater harvesting as the washer will be next to the toilet in the utility so we might as well get something rigged while the work is being done.
Doveling I think there is a grey water harvest instructable
http://www.instructables.com/
The search is very good, just type 'grey water' for all sorts of directions.0 -
Thanks for the reminder about the wills, GreyQueen. It's something I've been putting off as there's no obvious person I'd leave anything to apart from my mother. However, the thought of anything of mine left in the hands of certain relatives is motivation enough to get it sorted! I know who I wouldn't like to benefit...0

DH and I need to do wills, too, including naming guardians for the littlies, as they are still quite young (9 & 6) and we are not that young (late 40's & early 50's). Guardians will probably be my sister and our 3rd oldest child. One of DH's sisters is still married, nearly 10 years after splitting from her DH, and doesn't realise the implications of this if either of them dies intestate!
Our building work starts in the next few weeks, including having a multi fuel stove fitted, and I'm using the opportunity to plan all sorts of storage spots, minor changes to incorporate various preps and the most mahoosive dejunk ever seen since we moved in 20 years ago! :rotfl:

Heck, knowing who you don't want to inherit is a start. You can always name a charity as your beneficiary if there is no obvious person you'd like to leave things to. I'm going to have a national cancer charity as my third string, if my only sibling or my cousin's child isn't around to inherit.
Anything but to leave a flipping muddle behind. I damn nearly got one of my older rellies raised as a zombie so I could kill him myself for dying intestate and leaving such a mess that I was worried he'd drag my beloved grandad down into the grave with him due to all the stress.
My family know that I wanna be cut up for spares (am registered organ donor), planted in a woodland grave (ideally in basketry, red willow being my favourite) and have a non-religious ceremony if they insist on ceremony.
A farmer friend, presently north of seventy, was asked by the solicitor doing estate planning what he wanted to happen in due course? A lifelong heathen like me, he suggested chucking his carcase into the farm's muck heap, which shocked the solicitor down to his Lobbs, apparently.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Please get that will done urgently; I knew a case where the ex inherited everything despite the fact that a divorce had been granted. The absolute could not be requested for another week when the divorcing spouse died suddenly. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Son's new bed has just arrived.
I use the term "bed" loosely :rotfl:
What has actually been delivered are three boxes containing pieces of wood, a bag of screws and an allen(sp?) key.
The delivery men beat a hasty retreat when they saw my face.
If I'd known that I had to literally "make" the bed myself, I would have asked for a discount!
I've only just got over the fact that a mattress wasn't included in the price
And we have to get rid of all the packaging!!!!
Since when have companies got away with this?
Ooh, Victoria Meldrew is on a roll
Reminds me of the window cleaner when we first moved here.:D
"Could you make sure the sills and frames get a good doing" says I
"Sorry, love. I only clean the glass, frames cost extra" says he
"It says window cleaner on your van, not glass cleaner. Define window, please" says I
There was a pause for thought.
"You win" said he.
I wonder how many paid up!
Oh,well. Coffee break over ( should have had a glass of red!) back to the grind.
Just a thought, would it be any use for people to write a letter of intent and sign it if they are waiting for cheap wills month. Better than nothingNot dim.....just living in soft focus

It's a scam, isn't it, Doveling?
Just think, you could have gone to the library (or to a website) got a plan inc measurements of the wood and got it cut to size at any woodyard. Then, you'd've bought some hardware to bolt it all together and still has some work to do, but at a fraction of the cost and with only some small packaging from the bolts etc.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
