Haven't been around for a few days with helping DD1 move into her new flat. So I don't know if this is too late to bother with Mrs L but it might be useful for anyone else with hot water problems.
A garden pressure spray works really well as a shower with just one kettleful of hot water to two of cold. Pump it up and you can wash your hair and the rest of you. It's worth keeping one in reserve for these sorts of emergencies - obviously don't use one that has had noxious garden chemicals in!! You can get a spray quite cheaply from Screwfix

This works even better if you can get a fitting like a watering can spray. We have used this set up for years on holidays where shore based facilities are on the squalid side (we go sailing a lot)It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
It's interesting to see the huge differences in this tiny wee country isn't it? I have never been away down south but my son goes to Worthing a lot to see his in-laws and he says it's tropicalA garden pressure spray works really well as a shower with just one kettleful of hot water to two of cold. On this hill in Lancashire, we have snow lying & falling but a gritter truck has just gone past.
Thanks to the support, advice & collective wisdom on this board, I am presently warm, safe, & with prepared storecupboards (OK & 3 teenagers, ulp) I feel modestly prepared & quite happy to spend a day indoors doing other things...
Thank you!0 -
We've driven back from the 'shires' today and there was snow lying all the way down until we got to the Hampshire border going east, the temperature here in the south of the county is a heady 5 degrees. Luckily I'd set the fire and filled the kettle before we went on Friday so it was a case of light up and boil for tea before we unloaded the car. The lounge is now toasty and the kettle on the stove was hot enough to wash up after lunch. I made some pea and ham soup to warm us up too which means that even if we have no heating we're NOT uncomfortable.
We have an inset stove ZEUPATER so I only have a narrowish shelf to cook on but I have the right shaped pans for using on it, I have a pair of half moon saucepans which sit with the flat part right against the stove surround for quicker heating, I have a couple of sets of rectangular mess tins which I cook soda bread and scones in very successfully and the camping kettle heats water very efficiently. When we move I'm going to make sure that whatever we put in by way of a stove has cooking plates to make a bigger range of cooking possible. Until then, this one serves us adequately.0 -

Unfortunately, due to the narrowness of my street, and vehicles always parked on both sides, we never get a gritter visit.
It's also quite a steep hill, so descending it, when there's snow on the ground, can be interesting, to say the least.0 -
I'm sat here wondering why my back hurts then I realised I'm not 12 anymore and it's most likely due to the hour and a half we've spent sledging down the hill this afternoon. : D0

It's currently 5 degrees here, and, thankfully, the snow has turned to rain.
With luck, all the snow currently on the ground, will have melted by morning.0 -
It's been about 10℃ all day over here on the other side of the New Forest to MrsLW, and pouring with rain! I was working, so up at silly o'clock in time to get to the venue & capture a "good" parking space - i.e. one where I didn't have to carry all my worldly goods too far & get them soggy. But - really warm, for January, and fun watching the surfers; there were some halfway decent rollers coming in.Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

We've had snow on and off all day and currently sitting at 0C, due to get warmer and rain overnight.0

Yip. The next problem is going to be all that thawing snow on already saturated ground and rain to boot. :cool:0
