OMG, Mrs L, just at the worst time of year - there's a prepping test, if ever there was one! (Don't know if there any gyms near you offering cheap trials in January? I know it's possible to wash using only a jug of warm water, but there are times when a hot shower or bath make life so much more bearable...)0

You could fill a solar shower with warm water, heated up on the woodstove.0 -
I have had 3 x boils of the camping kettle on the stove since we lit it at 3.30 this afternoon, one I made sure it WAS boiling on the hob and it made us a hot drink, the next one washed up after supper and the last one has just given me a thorough good wash and half a hair wash, I boiled the electric kettle for the rinsing water and it worked a treat. A very good trial for prepping I think and we've cracked step one of the learning curve. The kettle is a LiTech one and is the first container I've used on the stove that has got the water approaching boiling so I'm now considering getting some LiTech pans too, whatever they're made from seems to work!0

Mrs L I use my kelly kettle on it's side, in my stove - it goes in bottom first, and half of it is out the front, but it boils the water really quickly! you just need to be really careful pouring it out :-)

I've just had a bowl bath using one kettle of hot water. Stand in the bath with the washing water in a washing up bowl. Use soap as shower gel is too foamy. Use the sponge to get wet with clean water then put soap on the sponge and wash yourself. Rinse the soap out of the sponge with cold water from the tap and then use the sponge to thoroughly rinse off all the soap. Works really well and is like taking a shower. I used the water that was left in the bowl to rinse down the bath after I'd finished as it was clean and not soapy. Necessity IS the mother of invention and I'm now clean and warm and dry! Woohoo!!!0

oh no, mrsLW, I hope it is all fixed soon. Straight back to the old days when that happened. I know it is your birthday soon, happy birthday. How do you feel about entering that decade? Personally I am finding it hard, all the other decades were fine but this one!! Its like the gateway to old age and I have to shrug that thought out of my brain pdq0

Happy Birthday to you too Kittie, I'm fine with 70 it's just a number and 69 hasn't had much relevance so I don't think anything will change. Nothing's fallen off as of yet and we can still do all we want to do, life hasn't slowed appreciably and we're enjoying all we have and all we do so 70 is not anything to worry about is it?
It's odd not having hot water, I keep forgetting and turning on the hot water taps and nothing happens, it's fine though just takes the time to boil a kettle where it would have been instant and I'm trying to make the most use of each kettleful I have and doubling up so I save the washing up for when we want a hot drink and use the other half of the hot water for dishes. I'm also leaving the hot water to cool in the bowl to put the heat back into the house. The wood stove though is worth every penny we paid for it and still the most sensible investment we've ever made and all the wood 'wombling' over the years becomes utter sense at a time like this because we don't have to worry that we'll have massive bills to pay, we can stay warm with a clear conscience because we've already paid!!!0 -
You can also wash a bit at a time while keeping the other bits dressed and warm.. Start at the top end cos it's cleaner lol and work downwards. Uncover a bit, give it a quick wash, then recover it and move on to the next bit
:D

Kittie I've just turned 68 and I'm not at all happy. My health has taken a nose dive and my strength has totally gone. I started to go up the stairs in the hospital yesterday and got up about 4 and had to come back down and get the lift. That really upset me - but my knees hurt and my strength has gone and my breath with it!0
