The trouble with the brazenly-rich is that they don't seem to understand the potential risk of kidnapping or just out-and-out attacks to which they are exposing themselves. It's very hazardous to be the beloved offspring or spouse of a very wealthy and (perhaps) justifiably loathed man. Very few people have made billions without stepping on a lot of toes.
Or even a MIL. Read earlier that Bernie Ecclestone's (Formula 1 boss) MIL has been kidnapped in Brazil and they're asking millions to release her. I wonder how well he gets on with the MIL....Make £2025 in 2025

.... I just hope it reaches us here in the frozen north. If we got a wee bit warmer we could grow a hell of a lot more than we do now. At this height we can't grow any kind of tree fruits at all and we can't grow early tatties. This bugs me
PAH!
Excuses, excuses!:p
18thC Scottish gardeners had to successfully grow a pineapple for admission to the Free Gardeners.
I can't find that link (may have read it in hard copy rather than online), but this also refers -
during the 18th century the addition of glazed frames to traditional hot-beds of rotting manure allowed melons and, from about 1750, pineapples to be successfully grown.

... another mention -
Pineapples had been grown in Scotland from the early 18th century and were cultivated at Dunmore in hothouses against the walls of the garden.

Free Gardeners & pineapples -
Collars and Jewels
These were decorated by plants and produce such as pineapples, grapes, flowers and, in particular, roses and thistles. Cultivation of the former were considered to be the ultimate test of a good gardener in raising pineapples and grapes in Scotland.

There is a beautiful big mansion house just down the road that has a circular walled garden. It's off the road so you can't see what sort of state it's in but I believe that's how they did it. On a south facing wall to catch the sun.. but that's lower down than me. I think some of the problem here is the height? that's what the neighbours tell me anyway.
I have never in my life seen a tree full of plums, and I love them.. I grow wild strawberries though and all berries do ok, inc Tayberries.0 -
Greetings from South Africa. We is on our holibobs. Here they call each other "ma brew" which I think is like "my brother".
Fantastic storm last night. I think a foot of water fell yesterday and the power went out. Our guest house manager says power cuts happen fairly frequently, and houses are now more geared up with generators, solar panels and battery packs that can power a small home for about 80 hours.
Fortunately, even though it is winter here, we are fairly far north so it is still around 20 - 25 degrees (though has gone as low as 15).
Tomorrow we are going into Swaziland, staying somewhere with no electricity at all, so I'll let you know how they cope thereI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
