I'm currently in West Wales, it's blustery but nothing unusual. the red sky has gone and it's a bright day with a haze of clouds...

    Trains are running on time..

    It got worse....

I have frequently seen what I regard as "BAD news" weatherwise since moving here. I think this is the worst to date. It's very windy out there now.

My greenhouse was bought after telling the firm concerned how windy an area this is and specifically asking if it would stand up to West Wales weather. They said it would - I'm glad I've got that in writing from them - as its in one piece, but looking worse for wear and I'm not sure it's going to be possible to get it back to normal - fingers crossed it will be - but looks like I'll be needing to ask a favour or two and hope they can manage it (as I can see it looks like I cant). It's got sliding doors on it and I'm not sure if I should open them or no to best protect it - though the wind has already ensured I cant shut the doors to as normal -and something somewhere seems to be out of place preventing me doing so.

Apologies for butting in- love this thread but never brave enough to join in!:)

Oh, please do butt in Mish. I don't think we have many contributors from NI. I think we'd be interested to hear your views on Brexit, and many other things.

Just after 3.30 it got so dark that all the street lamps came on for about half an hour. They've gone off again now but there's still a weird light out there
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • I've been over in the west for the weekend with DD1 and this morning woke up to the strangest sky I've ever seen, apricot coloured and the sun was a ball of 'molten copper' glaring balefully through the orange dusky sky, stayed that way all the way home on the train and seemed to follow our progress all the way back here to Hampshire. It's cleared somewhat now and we have a normal sunset but it was VERY strange! The wind is up a bit and likely to get stronger for a few hours but I think we've been fortunate and my thoughts are with the folks in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland who've borne the brunt of Ophelia today and those in the west, Wales and Scotland and the Isles who are going to have Ophelia with them overnight. Hold on tight folks, and stay safe xxx.

Apparently the red sun and strange sky are due to Ophelia picking up dust from the Sahara.

We are lucky in the Land of Nargle, just winds 40-55 mph now till tomorrow morning. Three people have been killed in Ireland.

It was pretty rough hereabouts yesterday; I spent most of the day in & around our County Hospital as Mum had a bit of a scary go early yesterday morning. I kept having to pop out of A&E to text various family members with updates and/or instructions, and the sky was dark yellow and the sun a fitful glowing orange in between huge iron-grey scudding clouds. Once she was finally admitted to a ward in the late afternoon, she was kept well-entertained by the windows rattling and curtains billowing. At one point they threatened to shut the windows but I suspect they'd have lost a few old dears to overheating as the heating was on full blast despite the spike in temperatures.

Still haven't been over to the 'lottie to see if our little shed is still standing...
