Well done the Fencers! But can you come & sort out our petty Hitler site manager next, please?! I've just been told to remove "the daisies" because "they're weeds!" So have had to uproot all the rather lovely camomile along the path, that the bees were loving. Never mind, the house smells wonderful; I stripped the flowers off & popped them into the dehydrator, so it's not wasted. But I am a tad concerned that the site manager can't tell a useful herb from a daisy, not to mention that the site is supposed to be pesticide & herbicide free, but he's telling everyone to use Roundup and slug pellets! (Although as it's a new site, the molluscs haven't caught on that we're there yet.) Sigh...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Feeling very uneasy.
Mr.D showed me a map this morning showing which country people across the globe thought was the most dangerous. Guess which?
And this was before Trump was voted in

The American Empire will fall, as all empires fall. We may live long enough to see it, but it's inevitable. Rotten and corrupt from within, arrogant and overweening without, pretty much like the Roman Empire towards the end, even to the debasement of the currency. Not to mention the military-commerical looting complex.
It might be prudent for ruling caste Americans to practise a bit of humility, ready for the time when they're not the biggest, baddest dog in the fight, and have to get along amicably with the rest of the world.
Chances are, that won't happen, and folks will have to learn the hard way what it's like to be a footnote in history.
Re the Fat Lad on the peninsula, look at the atlas and tell me you can't see him being swatted down very hard by the Chinese sometime soon............Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I certainly wouldn't want to annoy China, they aren't known for their forebearance and compassion..0

I can't see the Chinese, as the regional superpower, putting up with the Fat Lad de-stabilising the entire region and causing a war on their border.
My expectations for future events lean towards a Chinese-backed coup against him, with an assassination, and/ or a Chinese invasion of NK, and an execution. He's going to be a walnut between the anvil of SK (backed by the US) and the hammer of China.
The Chinese may have a global reputation as a bunch of wily grafters churning out plastic knick-knacks, but they are an ancient and very powerful culture, are incredibly numerous and have a very well-equipped military. Plus they won't have to faddle about by going thru the motions of a democratic process before military action - when it happens, it will be fast and furious.
No worried about world-minus-Fat-Lad, just sad about the ordinary joe soaps who're going to get caught in the gears.:(Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

But China has actually been amazingly forbearing because NK quite often doesn't do what China wants. But so far as one can tell, they haven't taken him to one side and delivered a few well chosen wordsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I suspect that they are indulging him to create a sideshow to distract the Yanks from their own activities, something he does supremely well.
When he ceases to have value in that role, or when his mental instability seems likely to bring conventional or nuclear war onto their very border, is when the gloves come off and he gets it.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I was upset by the latest round of sanctions imposed by the UN against NK - although I can understand the reasoning, it will be the already impoverished and mostly terrorised little people who will suffer even more, not him with the ridiculous haircut and his gang.
The accounts of North Koreans who manage to escape the regime are so horrifying in their descriptions of the torture imposed on those who try to resist - thus terrifying the rest - it's difficult to see how things can change from within (not to mention that most of the population is weak from hunger a lot of the time, and the not-so-secret concentration camps and summary executions on bogus charges).
Maybe a Chinese power grab wouldn't be so bad for the average NK peeps. It's hard to see how it could be worse...0 -
GQ, I like your take on what could be going on with US/NK/China - that makes a lot of sense. Except, as you and MaryB say, for the ordinary joe soaps caught up in the nightmare that's been created. I'm glad we live on the other side of the world ....2023: the year I get to buy a car0
