I've just read an article on the news feed from USA TODAY in which they are saying that the strikes were directed against an airfield from which the USA 'SUSPECT' the planes that carried out the chemical weapons attack flew from. I'm not entirely sure that 'suspecting' rather than having concrete and unquestionable evidence is good enough to actually act. Others will undoubtedly think differently though.0

I'm not (particularly) into conspiracy theories but just when the US seems to have a president who would be inclined to be pragmatic about letting Assad stay in order to get rid of ISIS, he goes and does something so egregious that it can't be overlooked. Why would he do that?It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Yes, the 'why' of it is interesting.
I don't for one minute think that he is the several kinds of stupid he is portrayed as - the fact that he comes across as stupid makes him more dangerous IMO (a bit like Boris)
I also am assuming that he doesn't give too much of a jot about the "poor little syrian babies" as he'd have done something about that (like, letting in refugees for example).
Also am assuming he knows that there will be some effect / result regarding Russia.
So.... why?
My take is
1. to cover up the Russia-gate stuff that surrounds his election (see, we are not friends after all)
2. To counteract his waning approval ratings
3. to put something else through on the quiet
4. Make some kind of show against Putin
5. Say something / warning to the N. Koreans
Or any combination of this and / or something else.....
Worrying times...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Totally with you both on how mad this is. Its got me wondering about false flag events, no matter that I sound like a conspiracy theorist. And yes, suspicion is not proof. And even the proof "we" had of WMD was wrong, wasn't it ... I don't think this will be an immediate trigger to a war, but a proxy war, of which this is a part, is already being fought. Prepping is crucial in these times, I think.
And I was just reading an old interview with James Lovelock yesterday, from The Guardian in 2008, I think, and he was talking about 20 years before things *really* go wrong environmentally .... there's a lot going on, thats all I can say!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
It's done now, all the worrying about the rights and wrongs of actually doing it are irrelevant and what we DO now have to ponder on and be prepared for are the repercussions to it and the inevitable actions and reactions of another set of unpredictable people who also don't seem to have any kind of moral compass.
Conspiracy theories? if you ruin a planet and rid it of the greater number of humans no matter how deep the bunker you have prepared, no matter how large and comprehensive the stockpile you have accrued one day it will be used up and they'll have to come out and on that day you'll face the same conditions as those who survive it and adapt to what IS!!! won't that be an interesting confrontation?0 -
Just saw this on BBC news now, and the word "suspected" worries me as well MrsL. Trump is a nutcase.0

I rather think that as of today we are all actually living in those 'Interesting Times' of the old Chinese curse! aren't we the lucky ones?0

Frankly I think he still got off lightly.0 -
The judge needs sacking for even thinking of letting him off.One life - your life - live it!0

I think my last post was a bit ambiguous. I was wondering why Assad would use chemical weapons not why Trump would take action. I can't see any reason for Assad to do that, not now when the tide seemed to be turning in his favour.
But I'm not sure it helps to speculate. It is what it is, no matter who are the real players and their real motives. The world seems another bit more dangerousIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
