Anything by Burgon and Ball looks very stylish and they are actually quite good tools ...

I'd agree with the first part of that ...

Mar, I had to move all my stores because of building work and they all got pushed into nooks and crannies - and lost!

I knew I had a load of olive oil but couldn't find it for yonks and when I did it was well out of date. Although it wasn't cold in the place I found it, it looked funny - sort of cloudy lumps at the bottom of the bottle, not the same as the cloudiness you get when its stored at a cold temp. But I thought I had nothing to lose so I stood the bottles in warm water for a few minutes. Sure enough the murkiness disappeared. And when I opened the bottle it was fine, did not smell rancid or off in any way and it tasted fine as well.

Mine was stored - ahem - lost - in a cool but not cold, dark place which probably helped. But if I tell you one of the bottles was four years old and it was absolutely fine, hopefully that helps. ( note to self, get better at stock rotation ).

One thing, I always buy in glass bottles rather than plastic. I'm never too sure about compounds leaching out of plastic. Lidl used to sell their olive oil in glass bottles, but now they have moved over to plastic. However every now and then they sell XXL bottles of olive oil in glass bottles. It's actually the same price per litre as the 750ml bottles so no saving. But I stock up when it's on offer
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Does she/he have a nice lightweight comfy folding chair? Every gardener needs an "admiring chair".
True - except as a retirement gift, it might come across as 'elastic stockings next step'. :D
A wind chime might be nice - if she is into that sort of thing. Though for a garden rather than an allotment perhaps..
Or a gift from these people

The Hillary commentary is distasteful. I haven't much time for the woman but she isn't Pol Pot, fer cryin' out loud. It is worth considering whether a person of nearly seventy is up to the enormous stresses and pressures of holding high office.

    And Trump is actually 70...

Is that his age or his IQ?

  • Get your retiring pal a Kelly Kettle. There's never been an allotment that didn't look a little better with a brew in hand, plus it's a brilliant bit of prepping kit.

If Trump's IQ is his age I want to see the test transcript. I'm not unduly fussed about his medical...
  • I'd agree a kelly kettle is an excellent idea!

Thunder, lightening and heavy rain here. The lights have flickered a couple of times so have got the candles and matches ready.

Same here, and a couple of the main roads are flooded.

Also, just had a text from a work colleague, telling me the factory has been struck by lightning.

:p It has been a delightfully sunny 31 degrees here today, beautiful sunset, red sky at night and scheduled for another lovely day tomorrow.
