I watched the footage (again) last night The clip of the crowds trying to outrun the toxic cloud of dust and debris was like a scene from a horror movie. Except it was real. Reportedly the air remained toxic for days. According to the Guardian today, 37,000 are already registered as seriously ill as a consequence and at least 1,000 have already died. They estimate that in 5 years the number of deaths will exceed the original deaths and it will go on and on for years.. Like Chernobyl it won't be possible to put a precise number on it, but years on, they will be able to see the spike in certain illnesses.
So I wondered how many here carry round even a basic face mask? Just a simple bit of kit might buy you time or lessen the damage. Or would that be overkill?

:) Some prepper sites recommend full face masks, some suggest a bandanna is a multifaceted item which can serve to cover the mouth and nose.

Difficult to say what is feasible to carry with you every day. I do use a dust mask when sanding as I figure any particles which can be kept out of the airways should be kept out.

The Hillary commentary is distasteful. I haven't much time for the woman but she isn't Pol Pot, fer cryin' out loud. It is worth considering whether a person of nearly seventy is up to the enormous stresses and pressures of holding high office. There are hard biological limits on what the human body and mind can endure.

Ill health in presidents has long been a sensitive subject. JFK had Addison's Disease, didn't he, and I think that was pretty hush-hush back in the day?

Addison's Disease (in men) is associated with a very powerful sex drive. He probably couldn't help himself. Oh wait, he did help himself......

Can I ask any allotmenteers for advice?

I have a good friend and mentor taking (early) retirement soon and I'm looking for recommendations for a leaving gift?

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

I think there is a garden centre gift voucher scheme which operates like book tokens so you are not tied to one shop.

Does she/he have a nice lightweight comfy folding chair? Every gardener needs an "admiring chair".

Anything by Burgon and Ball looks very stylish and they are actually quite good tools though you can get equally good for a lot less
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Has anybody got a decent sized stash of olive oil? How long does it keep?
