Finally harvested the spud crop - I have seed potatoes of 5 types sorted, and about once cereal bowl flat of 3 types & about one cereal bowl heaped of the other two. Ah well, we have the seed spuds we wanted... As well as delicious fresh spuds for supper this evening.
Do you mean the tiny little potatoes attached to the root? How do you keep them until planting time? And how do you store the mature spuds if you have many? Thank you! We have a large area still to dig up and we got to do it before the blight and rot hit them! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Mar - I was always told to make sure raw chicken products were double bagged if in with other shopping as they were "very buggy".
(My Mum's words). So I think the problem has always been known. Correct cooking methods will see off the culprits.
It's just today that everyone thinks supermarket stuff is so sanitised, that basic hygiene practices have been forgotten about.
It makes me wonder just how hygienic the conveyor belts in the supermarkets are and how often they are cleaned.
Also, handwashing in general seems to have taken a downturn.
I'm continually washing my hands when preparing and cooking food.
I don't think that handgels, although a useful standby for emergencies, can possibly be as effective as soap and water. Not dim.....just living in soft focus

Absolutely agree re hand washing Doveling - some people horrify me with their carelessness. I used to work in an infectious diseases unit and it's left me paranoid.0

Yesterday, I saw someone nip into the loo in Mr T, go out without washing her hands and then I saw her unloading her shopping onto the conveyor belt
Mind, I then got to my dads and witnessed my brother brush his teeth and then wipe his mouth on the tea towel :eek:
I have washed everything I have used again (before I used it) and dried it all with kitchen paper since then....
I always have a dilemma with public loo doors, trying to open them at the very top or very bottom of the handle, figuring that people who bother to touch them there a the ones who've washed.... (I know bugs can travel)I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I open public loo doors with my elbow if there is a handle. Doorknobs are more of a problem... I now see why carrying a hanky is a good idea!0
-
I open those doors while holding a piece of toilet paper ... and then after I've washed my hands, I get *another* piece of toilet paper to open the main door (or if I'm lucky somebody else is opening it, and I scoot through)!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I remember reading another study of airplane tray tables that found E. Coli and MERSA.
(The above studies did not) I always take antibacterial wipes with me when traveling to wipe down things.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

I have the antibacterial gel in a wee bottle in my bag and a bigger one in the car. Public loos I open the doors with a tissue or else with my elbow. Always. And escalators are bad, handles on bus seats are bad, money is the worst thing. Filthy money lol0

This is one thing I hadn't prepped for!!
Last weekend we had loads of rain. And then it turned into a monsoon for about an hour
Total carnage on our land as the stream and the neighbours fields couldn't cope.
We were very lucky another inch and it would have been in the house
Our pig runs were under water too. Pigs loved it. But anyomre and we would have had to ask the stables up the road of they had any empty stables for a day or so
