  • Mini problem planning - the OH's ferry home didn't go to plan, as the driver wasn't very careful about working out where to go in Calais to pick up the return. Cue circumnavigating The Jungle a couple of times and they eventually got on a much later sailing, so he's still not back.

There is now a chicken, kale and root veg soup with caraway sitting in the slow cooker, myself and the Idiot Cat have had more chicken over the course of the day than is seemly, there is a loaf of bread (3p from the supermarket) for any emergency toast situations and I am taking myself off to bed, leaving Himself to locate said soup and (far more likely) the emergency chilled bottle of Hoegaarden Weissbier sitting in the fridge when he eventually materialises.

That's planning for you. I might mention to him on his return that it would have been nice to leave two AA batteries out of the emergency pack of 20 in the kitchen drawer, though.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Sorry, but I have to ask - how on earth do you pronounce that?

It's what my DGD Sequoia calls herself. It's pronounced Coy ye. (Very soft second syllable) :)
She just turned two a few months ago. :)

Had a bit of a stock take whilst moving stuff for work in the kitchen
(wall coming down, deep joy and plaster dust) and found three tins of O.O.D mushy peas
Presuming I can whack them in the slow cooker with a ham hock?
Any other ideas, folks? We only ate them with battered fish which I haven't made for ages.

Pretty pleased with myself re: stock rotation and having things in store which we will actually eat.
My tins are stored in the cupboard of doom under the stairs and could easily descend into chaos :o

Running the freezer down as it needs to be moved (and defrosted). I'm filling empty plastic milk bottles with water and putting those in when any gaps are made. Seems to be taking a long time but dwindling stocks are making me a bit twitchy!

I've ordered one of the gadgets for opening jars - thanks Maryb.
Still haven't bought a power charger - thanks for the reminder Daz

Sequoia is a beautiful name :)

re the power banks, you can get those little 2.6 amp hour banks (they have the battery already installed) in poundWORLD . We dont have one locally but I saw them in the canterbury branch.
re the lighter gas, there were yellow cans of it in poundLAND when we were in there yesterday.

What do we all think of the news in todays papers about the state of supermarket meat? Is organic meat ok? What can we do to prep for this - all turn vegetarian?? And eat green stuff??:eek::eek:

I had not read about the supermarket meat but I usually try to use a good local butcher. Now I am the other end of town it is more difficult so I have just made an order with musclefoods and intend to fill the freezer. The meat is lean ,fresh and you can even choose organic.

I have also paid a visit to approved foods and have an order from there coming this week. I saved about 60% on there which helps pay for the really good meat.

The electric and gas meters have just been read so that is something else that has been done. I have sorted through and labelled all the stuff for emergencies and power cuts and still have a few stores to sort.

Feel as if I have done nothing but spend so far but am consoling myself that I am spending now so I don't have to later or else go out in miserable weather.

Well I've just put the All American Canner away until next year seeing as how the preserving's all preserved now, so the nest item on the agenda is the 6-monthly check out and re-stock of the BOB and the stash. The first one's for 2/3 days, t'other's for a fortnight, and just about the only aspect of either that we have a recurring problem with is food for the BOB.

I know we can buy camping/survival type food pouches and whatnot, but they're expensive, so can I ask what you guys keep in your bag to keep you going if there's no proper food up for grabs for a couple of days? Right now we're really scratching for things which resemble some kind of proper food, don't take up much space, don't add too much weight and aren't just variations on a muesli bar or dried fruit ...

There's just the two of us, btw.
    We're all doomed

My feeling is it's a combination of noise for domestic consumption in the US and Japan - distract people from what's going on under their noses - and getting their excuses in first, particularly in the case of Japan where their latest economic strategy is proving no more successful than any of the others.

The British press feel safe in being mischievous/provocative, since the economic numbers aren't looking too bad at the moment so they are putting out headlines suggesting Theresa May was pushed to the fringes when the G20 photos were taken. But Zerohedge was quite interesting. They showed the whole photograph, not just a part of it, and what you actually saw was Theresa May standing next to Saudia Arabia (who were right on the edge) - so she was hardly out in the cold. The person who WAS right on the fringes was Juncker. Also interesting - Russia and Turkey chatting away but not with the US
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
