Not a great board game lover myself but a firm favourite since the children were young is the UNO card game, a lot of luck involved so stops the competitive streak!0

If it's games for adults and kids I like the really stupid ones where if you've had a drink or two with Christmas dinner the games seem more impossible and funny. Operation and buckaroo, that kind of thing. There are other games where you end up looking a little stupid playing them..one where you have a magnetic bee on your head and have to pick pollen up from a giant flower, one where you have an elephant face mask and have to scoop up donuts on the trunks.
The more silly and fun the better at Christmas. Nobody needs to take things seriouslyBook a week challenge: 11/52. Competitions won in 2021: 120 -
Another vote for cranium and scattergories here!
Scattergories is a surprising source of amusement; our funniest answer was from my sister around the age of 6, who for the category 'things you see on the beach', letter N, came up with 'Naked Ladies'!!!! Mum and dad were quick to say we don't frequent those sorts of beaches :rotfl:August 2016 GC £249.70/£150
July 2016 GC £114.03/ £120
June 2016 GC £170.09/ £1750 -
Thanks for the suggestion , think Scattergories will be the one!
Was planning to make the choc pistachio fudge as a trial but totally misunderstand the amount of chocolate in the recipe . Will have to wait until we are next in town (we live in the sticks)
We don't buy many gifts now as called a truce with families a few years ago and it save stress and £££ . We do host a lot of guests over the holidays and this year I am organising a gathering of 50 plus family and friends at the local village hall. Hoping to do some sort of pot luck slowcooker affair for the food and get everyone to bring something*****

Hi all
I've enjoyed reading through this thread
I've just started planning for Christmas.
I've worked out what who I need to buy for and what else we need to save for so I can start getting organised.
I still need to plan for food - mum and I share this as I have my family at mine for dinner one day and we go to my in-laws for dinner the other (I don't need to take anything to the in-laws just our drinks)
Argh as I'm writing I've realised I've missed a huge part of my planning Food Gifts/crafts that I need to buy for
I do a Christmas eve box each year for the kids (I have 3 boys) which consists of new xmas pjs, a xmas book to share, a xmas movie to share, reindeer food and their xmas pillowslips.
I started it a couple of years ago and the little boys love it - the teenager not so much lol
I'm looking for suggestions for their stockings I feel its always something that I don't plan for and end up spending more than I need to :doh:Love people use things. The opposite never works.0 -
Wow I've loved reading this thread and enjoy everything about christmas. In my family this year we have decided to be sensible about costs and have limited gifts to £75 each.
I am really looking forward to the challenge tbh and have already bagged a couple of bargains, I managed to get a Fat Face shirt reduced from £35 to £10 and some Sketcher Go Walks from £58 to £25 so was well chuffed.
I also like to have some festive bits n pieces in my gifts so will buy a new decoration for the tree, some festive socks, chocolates and christmassy yankee candle etc
I love Halinika Fairies who do new designs every year and always want one of those in my stocking.
I have decided to do a christmas eve hamper which will be a first for me but a really lovely idea, the parents will be thrilled to received it as they relax xmas eve after rushing around in the run up.
Because we are limiting the money this year I am being creative with the wrapping aswell, usually we'd spend a fortune on nice gift boxes / bags, bows etc but this year I am going to do hampers in new green and red large horse feed tubs so they can be used for the horses once christamas is over, thats not as weird as it sounds as there is a certain brand that I cannot think of the name of but they will be perfect and a fraction of the price.
I hope everyone else's preparations are going well xx0
