Don't miss out on your winter fuel payment

Does anybody else find it odd that anyone from 60 onwards qualifies for this pament. We have it for the first time this year as my Husband is 60. He will be retiring shortly but obviously will not get the pension untill he is 65. I am not complaining in any way believe you me and am suitably grateful.
I think I am right in saying people over the age of 75 get a free tv license. Would it not be better if everyone in receipt of a pension got the fuel allowance and a free tv license whether they are a woman retiring ( at the moment) at 60 or a man retiring at 65, instead of paying £200 regardless of circumstances to every one over the age of 60?
As I say I am not complaining and will not be sending ours back!! Just seems an odd way that this is all worked out.Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -
A man had to take the government to court for sex discrimination, for the rest of us 60 somethings to get it.
(and women live longer and have an extra layer of fat ......mutter ... mutter ...mutter)
Happy Christmas,

Just a quick question to add here. Do you always get a letter saying that payment has gone into bank. I get winter fuel allowance for the first time this year. Husband had his letter saying payment had gone into bank and it would only be £100 as there was someone else in the house qualifying. I noticed from my bank statement that my payment went into bank a couple of days after his, but I've never received a letter.
Not really important, but just concerned that letter has gone astray.0 -

Hi Be Happy
I'm in a similar position to you . This was my first time receiving winter fuel allowance and it was £100 (as I am living with/caring for my father ) We have each received a letter .Without the rain you wouldn't have the rainbows !
I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left!0 -

We both had individual letters - a big waste of time and money - on separate days, and then the £100 arrived in our accounts on separate days too.
If it really was intended to be spent on winter fuel, why don't they ask which account you pay your fuel bills out of and put both amounts of £100 into that. We each have separate accounts but we both fund a joint account as well, and that account is kept just for paying household bills via monthly direct debits.

Am really p---d off with the pension people. Have just been told (I rang to check) that I have to claim YET AGAIN. This means I will have sent my birth certificate off to them THREE TIMES (sorry for the shouting). This is all because I deferred taking my pension - having taken it for about six months - so seem to become a sort of non-person. Started taking it again at the end of October but still have to fill in the form again........ grr.0

Both mine and Mrs dzug's are in (different) banks, but no letter yet. ISTR that last year the letter arrived some time after the money so I wouldn't worry.0 -

Got the letter today, so they have got as far as the "H's", saying first payment should be in the bank by 25th. by which time I will be sixty one and a quarter:rolleyes:.
Mild winter last year!
Sun's out, must go and saw some logs:D0 -
Hi
I'm no where near 60 but a good friend is.
She lives in her sisters house (sister and brother-in-law live abroad) does not pay rent but looks after house etc for them.
When she turns 60 next year, can you still claim for the heating allowance?
She lives alone)
