    It stops after the manufacturers logo, as soon as it tries to load the OS. OS partition tools don't detect the drive, even basic Linux commands can't do anything with it.

    From what you have described its looks like the HDD is at fault. The fact that you can boot into Linux from a USB key suggests that the rest is working OK including the motherboard. If it was me I would just replace the HDD.
