They dont make a profit, iirc it costs double/treble the amount to make the phone. Its subsidised by selling pre installed apps and the owner is hoping to get something from the government but not sure if thats agreed yet.
Each phone makes a loss. I think the plan is to establish the business and then offer similar phones at more profitable prices. Whilst still selling the installed apps.0 -
So how is this android phone a £3 iPhone?
Is it because they say it looks and feels like an iPhone?0 -
Just LOL ...
"But the device given out to me and other journalists was actually a Chinese-made phone.
Its brand name - Adcom - had been covered up with white paint on the front, and a sticker hid it on the rear."
Where did you get the title "£3 iphone" from ??0 -
Yeah - right - If china can make copies for less than £3 - and clearly make a profit - why can Apple not do similar (especially, since they are made in China anyway) ?
Why fixed on Apple?
They make a product that people lap up every year.
Why wouldn't they charge a premium?
That £3 smart phone is pie in the sky. Yesterday was launch day and they launched zero of the 200,000 handsets promised.0 -

Because.. they're not iphones. These £3 phones are short batch of subsidises (by software firms) phones.
They won't have the level of quality control or hardware that a 'better' phone will have. It won't have the software or customer support of a 'better' phone.
Don't be fooled - phones don't cost £3 to manufacture.
Iphones cost roughtly $236 to manufacture. Some of it is fairly bespoke industrial manufacture methods. The R&D is pretty expensive too.
BUT.. the raw cost is still only about 1/3 of the retail cost. So sure, they make a big profit too.0 -
So they claim $236 - this appears excessive doesn't it ?ringo_24601 wrote: »Because.. they're not iphones. These £3 phones are short batch of subsidises (by software firms) phones.

Its not 6k but I found it.
And it has as much in common with a Ferrari as this phone does to an iPhone.
Looks and feels like a Ferrari :rotfl:0 -

DId you read what i put?
I was reffering to your £3 'iphone', that company does not make a profit, it sells the phone at a loss. The money they make is from selling pre installed apps on their phones.
I dont believe there on sale yet either?! So no they definitely have not made any profit.0
