O/S Daily Thread for Friday 8th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all
Hubby is off to watch the GP today, they had hoped to go yesterday but 3 of the 4 he is going with work for a local IT company and they had problems with an order at work so couldn't get away.

I need to work through my lunch break today and see if I can leave early, I have a parcel to collect from the local sorting office and they are only open 8 'til 2 and I work 7:30 'til 2.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread HH.

Dull and wet again outside but I excited about my trip.

Yesterday was fairly productive at 'work' and then I got my suitcase and backpack almost ready. The weather in Orkney is so unpredictable that I feel I'm over-ready and taking a little too much. At least I'll not be too cold and doubt I'll be too hot!

Today I have to finally clear the 'builders corner' - just the big chair really though I sure they can move it themselves. I'm inclined to not bother vacuuming as there will be dust galore during the demolition work and plasterboarding.

The community here is still reeling from the dreadful death of the two young children who drowned in their car. We always consider Kilmelford as halfway between us and Oban and everyone knows the road well. It's so awful.

TA - hope the visit to Liverpool went fine, no major hold ups.

Camelot - enjoy your days with DS.

Right, first cup of tea time. And I MUST resist the biscuits I bought for the builders. :p

    Happy Friday everyone.

Morning folks and thanks for the start HESTER. A damp start here but forecast to brighten up.

Yesterday's Oncology appt went like clockwork for once and we were setting off home again in record time. Did the girls scampi, cheesy pasta and sweetcorn for tea and every bit got eaten. Swimming gives them an appetite!

I am just enjoying my morning coffee in peace as they are still asleep. They'll be to waken up for feeding, watering and dressing soon though. Then the school run. It has seemed so much calmer with the eldest missing!

It's the Friday clean round today but I have a hair appointment at 12.00 so it will have to be done in split shifts! It was the only time she could fit me in so it was needs must as it needs cutting badly. It soon goes haywire!

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx

    Morning everyone,

Cloudy here, hoping it will brighten up later as we are going racing :j

Despite living just outside horsey town we very rarely visit the courses, but we do like the July meeting especially today which is Gentleman's Day. It's a tad less busy than Ladies Day so you get to see more of the races. If does give me and the OH a good reason to get dressed up, we treat ourselves to the Members Enclosure so have access to the parade ring etc. This year my youngest SS is coming with us so I will be escorted by two handsome men :) Have my stash of social money so will take enough to have a few bets, I usually ignore the form and just go for the ones I like the look of.

Will whizz round with the hoover this morning and get a few bits done, hopefully it will stay dry and the girls can spend the morning in the garden ahead of being left this afternoon.

Glad the appointment went so smoothly TA.

Have a good Friday everyone, take care folks x

    Morning :hello:

I didn't get very far in the garden. I started moving things around but couldn't put anything into place properly til the Christmas tree in the large pot had been moved. I couldn't shift it, it pulled on my hip every time I tried. And my arms are very weak, I used to be able to lift really heavy things. I'm feeling a bit pathetic and quite mortified and am going to start sorting this this out today, I don't like being weak :D

Scampi had a perfect day yesterday and I mean PERFECT!! He even didn't bark out of the lounge window, he kept jumping up on the chair and staring out, when someone walked/cycled (yes, cycled!) past he just turned to look at me as if to say 'look, aren't I good?' :D If this carries on I'll be able to open the blind at the hall window – it's been closed for months, lol.

A few more strawberries have ripened, I'll be picking those in a mo. I'll let mr tru have one if he makes himself useful and moves that large pot for me :D Then I can get on with the rest of the garden. I think it's supposed to rain today at some point so I'll just work around it. It's pizza day so I'll have that while watching Agatha Raisin. Anyone else watch it? It's not my usual thing but I really love it.

    Morning,

DH and I got up at 5am as DS1 and his friends are off to a music festival in Bristol. They needed to be at Victoria coach station for a 730am departure. Everyone up, showered, breakfasted and off by 5.45am.

It's messy church this afternoon so I'm in for a busy day. DH is out at a gig tonight in Islington so I will see him for a few hours around lunchtime before he goes off.

Gers - I did think of you when I heard about the car crash. How terrible for the family of those children xx
Lainey - enjoy your day at the races xx
TA - glad the appointment went well yesterday xx
tru - that's really good about scampi. Our rescue dog used to hate people on bikes, buses and anyone in a high vis vest. Still hates hi vis vests but can cope with the others now :)

    Have a good day all.

    Good morning all,

Thank you Hester for starting us off.

I think it has been raining most of the night, certainly looks very wet outside. We only have a small shop to do this morning and I need to collect an order from M&S.

My dear sister and BIL are off to Norfolk tomorrow and their DD will be doing the driving. BIL isn't so good since he had a mini stroke last year, I hope the weather brightens up for them all.

I don't think we have anything particular planned for the weekend. Himself will be watchng the GP on Sunday of course. If it is dry I will attempt to do some of the back garden.

TA I am glad everything went well at the hospital and you didn't have a long time to wait. I received a copy of the renal Consultant's report who I saw last week. I think a copy was sent to me and one to my GP. He wants my BP tablets changed so I have made an appointment for the week after next with the GP.

    Have a good day all

Lovely day again yesterday, DD and I went to Rotterdam for the day. Some weird and wonderful architecture and lovely traditional old buildings by the waterfront. Walked about 7miles altogether!

Met up with DS2 and his gf but ended up buying cold meats and cheeses with salad for tea and ate on the balcony in lovely sunshine. Probably going down to the beach/harbour area later to get some kibbeling (lovely fried fish).

Not much OS going on, just normal washing/tidying up. Hope you all have a good Friday, enjoy the races Lainey and safe travels Gers. Don't wear yourself out HH. Take care. Xx

Good Morning chums,I read about those two children in the Loch how dreadful for the families ,so sad, god rest them.

Today is a bit overcast at the moment but its forecast to be dry. History club this afternoon and the Spanish civil war is on the agenda.

Tomorrow is our big day and I have everything ready.I am taking a couple of water bottles with me as its forecast to be hot and we don't want to dehydrate. We have collected over £400 odd pounds and I am so pleased with it.With our bright pink tee shirts and headbands and our stick-on tattoos we should look a bit jazzy but I don't mind as its such a good cause.Thank you to everyone who have donated we will do our best for you all. DD has promised me a large G&T when we finish :):):)

    Onwards and upwards chums
