Ppi from 1994!!!

Options
Would you try/ would there be a chance of reclaiming missold ppi from 1994/1995/1996??
We think we possible had the product on various loans taken out with Yorkshire bank, but have no paperwork, and no loan details.
It would, if it were there, be unnecessary and potentially missold.

Is the time scale too high? We are talking 20/22 years ago.

Thanks for any help.

You'll struggle without any documentation, but not even knowing if there was any PPI is an added burden.
You'll need to send a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter to the loan provider which will cost you £10, but will net you everything they've kept on file for you.
If no records have been kept (or if you had no PPI) then your complaint will be over before it's begun.

You really need to try and find the account number because the bank cannot locate the loan details without it. Yorkshire Bank told me that statements which show the loan being repaid are stored in microfiche by account number.

They might be able to find your records if you had a current account with them until 2000, in which case send a DSAR. A relative of mine closed their YB account in 2002 and managed to get hold of copy statements, so its worth a try.

Lack of documentation from both ends will be the potential killer of this - you are seeking to complain about something you don't know you had for certain. Do you have any supporting evidence for any of your complaint reasons (remember the onus is on you as the accuser to prove you were miss-sold) such as proof of work benefits etc?

Remember also, simply showing you had PPI doesn't mean you were miss-sold.

Gambling £10 on a DSAR giving them all the possible info you have to help them find the accounts is your best route to at least establish if you did have it

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I had a different experience with them. I had PPI on a loan and credit card with them from 1993 and 1994. I didn't have the account numbers and hadn't banked with them since 1998.

I simply contacted them with an enquiry letter providing name, date of birth and previous addresses. It took them 3 months but they came back to me with the loan and card details and are currently processing a claim.

Thank you CMS, this is good to hear. They seem to have got better at locating historic accounts since they were fined by the FCA in 2015.

The difference is you knew that you had PPI. Do be aware that despite "processing a claim", your complaint could well still be rejected. Good luck anyhow.

Thank you. I've had a letter this morning upholding my complaint.

Hi I had a mortgage with Northern Rock, which I got through a broker ie financial mortgage advisor.

Northern rock said I did have PPi through Aviva , but had to contact the the Broker who no longer trades.

I tried via fscs but as it was pre 2005 I cannot submit a claim , ?

Correct (albeit a complaint, rather than a claim, which would still be possible if the policy was in force).
