Twin Tuner HDD PVR vs DVD Recorder HDD PVR

Options
Hi everyone just looking for some advice on a choice that I have.

Looking to get a PVR for myself and have come across numerous threads about how good the Humax 9200 is, and I have to agree that it looks very good from all the review sites that I have visited.

I have a 40" Samsung LCD TV (with freeview built in ) already and my question to you is this:

Which would I be better getting?

1) A Twin tuner HDD PVR (say the humax for an example) or,

2) A Single tuner HDD DVD recorder PVR.

Obviously the DVD recorder option would allow me to copy my tv shows onto DVD and view in another room/house without moving the whole box itself but I have noticed that these are more expensive (generally) than the Twin tuner HDD PVR option.

I could obviously record a program on option 2 and use the inbuilt DTV tuner in my TV to watch another channel, but just wanted to know what you thought?

Anyone care to recommend any DVD recorder HDD PVR's?

As far as I can see, there are no twin tuner HDD DVD recorders on the market for a sensible amount of money, but perhaps I have missed one somewhere? :o

Thanks very much,

Robin.
Regards, Robin.

  • i have the humax and it really is the best, i spent months reading up reviews.

it is that good that people i know i have brought them after seeing mine.

go for it, you can still connect to pc if you want to burn to disk (not done it yet).
Google gives you answers use it.........
  • If you have a Freeview TV then it's pointless getting a dual-tuner HDD recorder UNLESS it gives you the facility to record 2 channels at once.

Otherwise just find a single tuner HDD recorder and use an external DVD recorder to archive stuff you want to keep.

I'd recommend the Humax 9200 - it really is a great piece of kit. It can record 2 channels at once and you can watch a recording at the same time.

The 9200 really is the mutt's nuts.

It is worth it, even if you only want to record one channel at once - who wants the hassle of having to switch to AV, do something on the PVR, switch back to the inbuilt tuner, then back to the PVR...waste of time.

You can always buy a real cheap DVD recorder later and just connect it to the outscart on the Humax later if you wanna back up to disk.

Thanks for all the comments, phoned my local "euronics" centre and asked about getting the humax, to which he asked of I had any other quotes. Told him I was in currys last night, and it was £199.99 but they didnt have any out on the stand but 4 in the stock room.

He said he could do it for £190 without much haggling, so I may pop down and see if he can go any lower!

Again thanks for the replys, any others will be mos welcome!

Another recommendation for th Humax - it's fantastic and archives hours and hours of programs. I've copied programs to my laptop and burned to disk. It's a bit of a hassle, but pretty straightforward via usb cable.

    Cheap price...

    Delivery is £6.
  • I have a Liteon 5025 DVD recorder. It's handy to be able to copy from hard disk to DVD and vice versa, and it's neater to have it all combined in the one unit. Highly recommended.
