I prefer to get it from the company I hire the car from.

For me that would be a total of 4 days in roughly 8/9 years.

    Seems I am way ahead.

I think your missing the point!. I hired a car in Spain last month and I paid £20 for cover for the 7 days from an independent company and that covered me for breakdowns, damage etc.
If I had bought the company's equivalent it was over £10 a day so that is £70 and it didn't even cover as much.

So you are throwing away money by getting it from the company you rent from!

    Absolute rubbish.
My annual car hire excess policy (Questor insurance) cost me £49.98 when I renewed it earlier this year.
It is an annual policy valid for worldwide car hire with only a couple of exempted countries.

In early May, I hired a car from Hertz and this was a Ford Focus at £169 per week. This included CDW but not their "super cover", and if the car was vandalised, I would be liable for the damage.
If I paid for "super cover" then I wouldn't have to pay for vandalism damage.

However, the difference between the rate 1 and rate 2 (which included super cover, personal accident insurance and personal effects cover) was £130 per week.

As my excess policy covers up to £6000 for vandalism, £40,000 for personal accident and £450 for personal effects, how exactly is my annual policy costing me more?

Last time I hired a car it was less than £49.98 so I am quids in doing it my way.

But thanks for the tip on Questor.

If I ever go on my fly drive holiday across America I shall look into them.

    So you'd pay enteprise £11.98 a day?

Never rented from Enterprise other than when the car was provided free by Jaguar Assist and I think that was Enterprise. It was nearly three years ago but it wasn't nearly £12 a day I remember that much, maybe they did a special deal for Jaguar Assist?

But your not quids in!. If you were only hiring the car for 4 days then you could have gotten a 4 day policy for around £15 or less.
I bet your insurance direct with the company was more than £15 and probably approaching £40 for 4 days!. Then you often have to pay for breakdown cover on top of that and it often doesn't cover things like tyres. The £15 insurance covers all this and more!

Guys sorry but I am not a troll and this is a genuine query.
Agreed that I should have taken an independent super cover, but now there is nothing much I can do.

My excess is £1000. SO I guess I will have to bite the bullet and see if I can get it repaired for cheap before returning the car.

    thanks

I actually have the car for another 3 weeks. I rented it for a month, part of the reason for not taking super cover as it costs double the monthly rental. But agreed i should have purchased an independent cover.

So it may not be fresh paint as the car itself is brand new.. only done 10k miles.

I did and I always will.

No you didn't, and by the sound of it you never have. When I said Daily excess cover what I meant (but didn't specifically state) was that it was taken out independently from the car hire - it's basically the same thing as annual cover but for a limited number of days when you know that will work out cheaper than the annual cover. I very much doubt if your rather bizarre decision to go with the hire company's cover has ever been as cost effective as buying the cover elsewhere, and trying to argue that your choice is in any way MSE is nonsensical.

In case you come to your senses, this is the one I've used in the past.
