Your points about the number of social housing properties make sense.
I'm going down the Fire Service route, as I said in an earlier post my sister remembers them visiting the old property.The Fire Brigade route is usually for those in private rented properties only. Certainly in London they won't come to social housing. It says so on their website.0 -
I think - if my memory serves me well; it's because they have so many properties - many more than most housing associations - so if they do start to provide them, they will be forever changing batteries and maintaining them.
I doubt it, since private landords aren't required to do so.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
I've lived in a council property for nearly 11 years.
In January we had some minor re wiring done (new light switches, new sockets/ some upgraded to doubles -went from 16 to 21 :j ,new fuse box), and this included installation of mains smoke alarms.
Previously we had purchased and installed battery operated ones ourselves.
Usually at the annual gas safety check comments would be made, why weren't they mains, to which they got a reply of "we rent so up to Landlord, also we are not registered electricians to fit them ourselves"
Sometimes they tested the alarms while here, sometimes they didn't, but the comments were always made.0
