smoke alarm in council property

I'm on the phone ringing them right now.....
"999, What service do you require .......? "
Do make use of them, seriously. I do on every house move I make. If you can afford it, a donation in exchange for the alarm is always worthwhile. I think it goes to the benevolent fund.
Oh, and G_M, it's not strictly an emergency, but I hope your call had a happy ending..0 -
G_M, I never knew you could be so bad!
Hot stuff, baby, this evening...
Been jonesing to use the naughty icon.0 -
I can't believe that you are actually quibbling about the cost of a smoke alarm.
Why would you or your mother not take some responsibility for your own safety.
Although, this thread did remind me to go and refit the battery in my own smoke alarm.
Er.....where did I post that anyone was 'quibbling about the cost if a smoke alarm'?
I asked if councils were responsible for fitting them.
When you're moving an 80+ year old and the new place is quite frankly in a !!!!-tip state) and you need to clean the old place and you need to organise a walk-in shower as the council no longer fund that even for a disabled person, do forgive me for not having a smoke alarm right at the top of my 'to-do' list.
Off you toddle to sort your own alarm out.0 -

The Fire Brigade route is usually for those in private rented properties only. Certainly in London they won't come to social housing. It says so on their website.0

Well, I've had another look at the unit & it seems to be pretty clear that it's just a carbon monoxide unit.
I will contact the Fire Service (if that is OK with 27col ) to get them to look at the property.
My sis seems to remember them visiting my Mum's last property - which was also social housing, albeit warden controlled senior citizens accommodation which is the same as her new place - so maybe that makes a difference.0 -

Our Fire Service will fit them for anyone who is over 75 or disabled or long term sick. No mention of the kind of housing you live in.0 -
Councils won't even fit walk-in showers, now? That absolutely blows.0

Please clarify the true meaning of your post.
In case you are being sarcastic, I will reiterate that my Mum is over 80, disabled and the property is warden-controlled and specifically for senior citizens.
After referrral by our local hospital, the council - in the same style of property as I'm talking about above - fitted a walk-in shower for my Dad. That was around 3 or 4 years ago.
It seems that the council no longer fund this.
I agree - it absolutely blows.0
