Same boat here so watching the thread with interest.

I know a lot of people say put it on your house insurance but then I'd lose my no claims which would bump the over all price of insurance up. So not sure that's the best idea.

Self insure or get a bank account that has mobile insurance as one of the perks. eg Nationwide Flexplus.

Self insure doesn't really work unless you have £600 to put away. Say I decide to put £30 a month away. What happens if I lose my phone after 9 months? I've got £270 when I need £619 to replace my phone. At £30 a month it would be 20 months before I had enough to replace my phone should I lose/damage it.

Most phone insurances are around £6-£8 a month. So it seems A bit extreme to go to the trouble of changing my bank account only to pay more for insurance anyway.

It has worked perfectly for me as in 15 years of owning a mobile I've neither lost or damaged a phone. £6 x 12 x 15 = £1,080 (at least) in my pocket.

As per MSE's advice if you are a serial loser then by all means take out a policy.

However if you are the type to never lose or damage your device then self insure is the way to go. Make sure to reduce the risk by investing in a decent case and tempered glass screen protector. If you do lose or damage your device and you don't have enough put away to buy a new device, look into credit options. A good example is a 0% purchases credit card, if your personal circumstances allow of course.

When your home insurance is up for renewal, see what effect adding personal belongings cover has on quotes. Also make sure to look for a policy which has a £0 voluntary excess and a low compulsory excess such as £50. May be cheaper than you think.

Buy a cheaper phone, it's not compulsory to have an iPhone.

If you phone is 6 months old now and you save £30 a month and lose it in 9 months your £270 should be enough to buy a second hand year old iPhone and give you a like for like replacement. You might even manage to get the next model up storage ways (64 or 128gb)

A new iPhone will be out around October reducing the cost of the replacement phone.

I looked for some quotes from a few sites from here last night

    http://www.money.co.uk/mobile-phone-insurance/iphone-insurance.htm

Loveit cover it doesn't seem to have a 6 month age limit and neither does trusted insurances.

Going to google later today and see if I can find some reviews of those companies.
