Rent the house out to vetted tenants, get a good management company and let them have the hassle.
If you want to avoid family issues, say you are returning home, get the relative out, do it for a couple of weeks or in the summer holidays when it won't disrupt the kids. Decide it is not working;) and revert to your original plan without anyone being any the wiser and having avoided confrontation with said relative.Save0 -
If the tenant wants evicting, most councils won't offer housing until the person is literally homeless - on the front steps with the bailiffs shifting their stuff outdoors. Moving out beforehand means making themself 'voluntarily homeless'. It's not going to be fun for you getting her out, I'm afraid, even if she's going willingly.Mortgage

I'd echo the poster that said you should rent again but at slightly below market rates. You'll get plenty of applicants and can be fussy about who you pick. There are a number of professional LLs on these boards that do just that because they value quality tenants over maximum rent. Do take a deposit from them though.

The area isnt a rough area, its quite a nice little town outside of Worcester. It just seems that Ive had some crap tenants.
My wife is the same as me in that she doesn't really want to split the family up, we tried the living in the block thing before and I lasted 6 months before we decided to rent our house and move into a married quarter.
My last tour is for 4 years and Im at the closest camp to the house. The thing is we may end up selling at the end of those 4 years anyway to move closer to wherever I can get work.
Either rent out again, or let the present tenant have her pets, then do the house up and sell in 4 years.
Sounds as if you are still thinking of this as your home, you need to see it as a rental, as long as the damage stays to a bit of pen on doors, that all can be cleaned up, at not much cost...surely that is preferable to a weekend dad situation..0 -

As above, go for slightly below market rent and pick a good tenant.
I've got one rental property (14 year old 2 bed flat) which I let out at £425 pcm although the rest in the area are let for £475-£500 pcm. The tenant is absolutely fantastic though and I know the property is being kept in pristine condition which could save me thousands in the long run.0 -
Im in the RAF and we had planned on settling in the area where the house is but not necessarily this house.
However we may have to move deepening on where I find work!0
