Spending Budget for Cyprus Holiday

I'm trying to figure out how much money to take on my 1 week trip to Cyprus in August, but my research so far has only found results from either families or people planning to eat out in restaurants every night!
I'm going with my partner and another couple, sharing a 2 bed villa in Protaras. There is a Lidl within walking distance, so we were planning on buying most of our food and drink (incl. alcohol) in, rather than eating out all the time. (Why leave when we have our own pool and BBQ? )
We're there for a friend's wedding, with other friends staying in hotels locally, so there'll be a big fancy restaurant meal out for the reception. Perhaps a lunch or two for 'explorey' days and drinks out 2/3 nights? Any suggestions?

It's seriously difficult to second guess other people's spending patterns and habits on holiday. Tastes can vary wildly from one couple to another.
For your supermarket days, id suggest budgeting double what you'd spend in a typical uk supermarket.
For basic meals out and drinks assume the same as you'd spend in the uk for similar.0 -

Obtain a suitable credit, debit or prepaid card or two that have no fees for overseas use, then use them there for purchases and to withdraw cash as and when needed. You'll find ATMs in your arrival airport. That way you save the money you would lose by buying cash and then selling back what you didn't use, or perhaps spending more than you otherwise would just to use it up. See:

I see this question daily on here and TA and as said its impossible to answer same with recommending a hotel
you could be well off and earning 100k a year or on minimum wage earning 10k a year so the difference will be huge"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0 -
We were there about a month ago, as others have said a good Zero Fee Credit Card is the way to go. We have a Halifax Clarity card and if you use ATM's at the Bank of Cyprus or similar there are no charges or fees other than the card's interest. We withdrew 540 euros and it cost us 84p in interest, mastercard conversion rate are the best - you can't lose.0

This supermarket chain is is at the other end of the island but their flyer should give you an idea of grocery prices...

Another flyer from a local Store , Alpha Mega about an hours drive away , more of the local waitrose, prices a little higher but far greater choice and quality and they stock many Tesco branded items https://www.alphamega.com.cy/en/content/grocery-offers-11416-20116

I agree that it is very difficult to answer your question. An indication of where you have been recently and how much you spent there per night might help out it in context. As an example I have found Cypruss a fair bit more expensive than Greece (especially eating out but often higher quality) but basic foodstuff from supermarkets similar. Cosmetics and personal care item more expensive than the UK but basic food and drink shopping cheaper. I budget on about £300 per couple week excluding trips, car hire, extras (such as air con) and only a little drink of the exiting variety! Made up of one meal out per day. The rest would depend on how much 'luxury' I would wish to add and for a wedding break that might be considerable.....??
........but still how long is a piece of string?0 -

I think you need to talk to the other couple and see what their plans are. We frequently rent villas with another couple and we're happy to have a decent lunch out on sightseeing days and have an almost endless buffet type meal available at other times (cold meat, cheese, pate, salads etc.). We organise a kitty for basic stuff like bakeries and markets and I pay for all the food shopping in supermarkets on my credit card and then we split the cost when the bill comes in.
I think this 'how much to take' question is a bit outdated. You're going to Cyprus, a developed country not way back of beyond. I'd just make sure that at least one of your group has the 'right' credit/debit card and then just use that in Cyprus just as you would (or at least I would) at home.0 -

I must admit that I agree with the above. We haven't 'taken' any money abroad for years. It all stays in our bank accounts and cash gets withdrawn as and when needed with credit cards being used whenever possible, just like we would do at home.
However, it is important to remember that the 'right' credit or debit cards are not available to everybody, so the OP's question is perfectly valid.0
