But if I get it working and cannot do the updates will I still need a memory card and if so what size?
Garmin give no information on this.

If you can get it working, you should be able to update it.
will I still need a memory card and if so what size? Garmin give no information on this.

I've got the 55LMT, and have a 32GB Micro SD Card fitted.

I would expect the 50 to take the same.

Never needed extra storage, updated about a dozen times. Takes about 10 mins, PC W10 Nuvi 2515

Maybe the 2515 has more internal memory, than the 50 and 55.

Certainly, I'm well into the Micro SD Card, on mine.

If you would like to compare, my 55LMT has 3.52GB of internal memory.

My Nuvi 2545 has 8GB of internal memory with just over 3GB free. I have updated the maps many times and have personal POIs and favourite destinations stored although I imagine its the maps that take most storage it also comes with UK speed camera locations stored.

I preferred the TomTom GUI but got fed up with its out of date maps and the fact that TomTom's price for updating them to current was similar to the price of the Garmin unit with lifetime maps and cameras. At the time TomTom didn't do lifetime maps and wanted payment for every update to current plus a subscription. I don't doubt that other copyright infringing options were available but I sold the TomTom on eBay and bought the Garmin.

I have never had any issues at all with mine either running or updating. The TomTom would frequently reboot itself if I set off before getting a satellite fix. I do use Windows though and suspect that it's possible the problem lies with the Mac software which maybe isn't so well developed or supported.

I found Garmin responded to my complaint about a new roundabout not showing on their maps quickly and telling me which update it would appear on (several months away as it happened).

It looks like the two digit models, may have less internal memory.

I'm quite happy with my Nuvi 55 LMT, and, even with the extra cost of buying the 32GB Micro SD Card, the price was quite reasonable.

The extra memory may be because mine has Western Europe maps rather than UK & Ireland. The selling point for me at the time though was the lifetime map updates as there is little chance I'll be driving anywhere but the UK.

The 55 LMT also has Western Europe maps.

And again, the 55 LMT has lifetime map updates.

The other thing I like, is the traffic receiver built into the GPS, eliminating the need to link it to a smartphone, in order to receive traffic updates.

Those traffic updates can be very misleading though. I no longer take recommended detours as I've often seen the road I'm travelling freely on marked as congested. I have yet to find a problem on my route after ignoring them either. I think the problem is that they aren't sufficiently up to date - I usually avoid peak times and don't doubt that the delays shown were real a couple of hours earlier. I suppose one day I'll wish I had taken a diversion though.

The TomTom HD traffic while I had it was far better but it's a subscription service and I don't travel enough these days to justify it.

Can anyone answer this, when I put in an address & "go", it sometimes says "No delays", how does it know?
